I have 2 Dodges, an '04. 5 auto and '05 6speed. I was looking at the engines today and noticed a difference. The auto has a bolt on piece of equiptment over the injection pump that the 6 speed doesn't have. It has what looks like a cable and vacuume line coming out of it going thru the firewall. Here is a pic of the motor I found on the web to point out what I am talking about. On my 6 speed you can access the top of the pump easilly but the auto has this accessory in the way. What is it?#ad

My manual 03 has that to. It's on the other trucks as well, it's just mounted in a different spot. I believe it's the throttle position sensor. When I installed my exhaust brake I had to tap into it and it showed it being mounted in two different spots, can't remember the other spot though...

All the trucks (manuals and autos) now have an electronic APPS/TPS that is located in a place other than the engine (money savings).

That is the cruise control servo for an auto equipped truck. (My 03 auto had that) Manuals were "servo-less" as cruise duties were handled only by the ECM so its not there.

Now I see my 05 auto also does not have a servo, so cruise on that one is now also handled the same as the manuals have been.

So why does my manual have it then? :p

The arrow above points to the throttle position sensor. I wish i knew why some trucks have this style and others have a much smaller version. My 04. 5 has one but i have many that do not.

Cummins_Crewcab, that's the throttle position sensor. You must have an early-build (prior to December 2002 or January 2003). By February they had been moved to beneath the driver's side battery.

I didn't know there were any trucks built after January 2003 that had a sensor on the engine in that location.

I didn't mean to argue, I thought maybe you were looking at some other devise. In the shop I have only seen those on auto's and was just quoting from the 03 OEM manual.

If you pull the vacuum line going to it you may find your cruise won't work.

My build date is April 2004 and I have it on the engine

I have also seen an "04 Auto with the TPS on the engine but my '03 6 spd is under the battery, I think it still has something to do with Auto-VS-manual.

My March '04 build '04. 5 6-speed doesn't have that, but my brother's '03 6-speed (not sure of the build) does have it.
