On my 97 , I have what seems to be a catalytic converter or is it a resonator? The reason I'm asking is I'm looking at exhaust kits and didn't no if I needed this item.

Your exhaust looks to be in good shape, I'd leave it alone. If you live in an area where you have to do emissions testing you'll need that cat.

The exhaust is in good shape up to the cat,it's getting bad after the cat. So I'll look at replacing it after the cat, it's a banks muffler and end pipe, which when my dad bought the powerpack kit,it should of been stainless steel, but it is not, and after 13 years its corroding /rusting to the point it getting holes in it.

Gotta love Az., my 99 still has all the factory under carraige and equipment. Don't love the 105-120 temps tho.

I have the banks power pack, and the tail pipe corroded. I replaced the entire exhaust system with MBRP stainless that did not have a cat. One benefit, your turbo will spool up sooner due to less restrictions. The exhaust note is much more pronounced. Had the new exhaust for 2 years and 0 corrosion. I like the mod.

I have a cat from my '96 with about 500 miles on it in my barn, been there since I removed it and replaced it with a delete pipe within the first month of owning the truck. The '03 never had one.
