What is this part

I have gotten so many different answers from the Truck Guys around town that I had to come to the experts here. the truck is a 2004.5 - 2500 - build date 6/2/2004. No wires running to it on incoming or out going sides. Then it is straight piped all the way to the back. I don't believe a muffler can be that for forward.

Catalytic converter.

There was never a DPF on a 5.9 truck, so no DPF until January 1st 2007.

There was a muffler aft of it from the factory, so somebody removed it.
