Ah help! See how much I believe in the TDR, I'm coming to you guys first with a medical question, sorta. I finished my 60lb exhaust valve spring change (thanks to everyone for your help, especially you bighammer!) but while I was doing it, #5 and #6, I was under the cowl and there was the insulation stuff. What is it made of? Right now both my arms are sensitive to the touch, I feel like there are a thousand little needles in my arms, it's really bad, and I'm in a mean allergenic phase. Was that stuff fiberglass? Or maybe I got a reaction to what ever material that is. Anyway I'm trying to ruff it, cuz if I get any worse my dad's taking me to the hospital:eek:, and I really don't wanna go there! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Can't really help you out with what that stuff is made of, but if you would like some medical advice, feel free to pm me.

I'm not sure but I think it is fiberglass. I used to jump in the lake and rub my hands and arms with sand, worked pretty good. A hot shower makes it worse in my experience.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Try Ivory Soap

I worked several years in construction, which as you can imagine exposed me to fiberglass insulation. The one thing I found that helped was to take a DRY bar of Ivory soap and rub the area that is affected. Not sure if this will help you, but it did provide some relief for me. Good Luck

Duct Tape

Fiberglass leaves millions of microscopic glass shards stuck into you. To get releif, you need to get 'em pulled out. The previous methods (soap & sand, etc. ) do this, but I've found that the magic fix all, cure all, duct tape works pretty good too. Just make a loop, sticky side out around one hand and roll it over the affected area. Repeat when the sticky is gone.

Oh, it also works great for removing unwanted hair, etc. Hmm, maybe that's what's really happening, the pain from ripping out the arm hair masks the itch from the fiberglass... :D

One of the remedies I've always heard for fiberglass fibers in the skin is to rub the area with panyhose. (preferably with the legs still in 'em :D Oo. )

... . or maybe that is for distraction rather than relief

Oh well, worth a try

I used to work at a fiberglass plant. IMO the best way is to soak in vinagar and if you got it in yoru clothes pour vinagar in teh load of landury. sounds funny but it works great

:) I'm alive! I'm alive!, sheesh, don't know what was going on in my body the last 2 days, after I posted, I tried to go to bed, then Monday morning I felt miserable, almost like the flu, and really congested, stinging in my arms went away, I did use the tape method. Then last night I felt like I was going to die:eek:, maybe the flu bug was just happening as I got into the fiberglass and it went off, don't know but today I feel like a million buck, okay maybe just 999. 991 bucks, but way better then yesterday. Thanks for all the advice and well wishes guys, I'm alive!

Holy moly! What a coincidence that a reply would show up 15 years later and just so happen I got fiberglass in my arms again! Lol was doing a turbo swap on my 96 and rubbed the same damn insulation I did so long ago! At least this time around I knew what to expect! And now I can add baby powder to the list of remedies!

I tried pantyhose to entangle and catch Dungeness crab, but my girl friend at the time could only hold her breath for about two minutes. So I had to end up spending 35 bucks for a trap that I could leave down from 30 minutes to a hour.
