what is this tube for?

while squirting purple degreaser all over my engine tonight, i saw a little tube on the back side of the engine. i was leaning over the air cleaner and looking toward the rear and down. it was a small tube mounted with a tab onto the engine. right on top of the rear of the engine. it was bent (formed) 90deg. at the end. the thing that got me was that there was nothing hooked to the end. no fitting. nothing. i will take a pic of this if it is not obvious to you guys what i am taking about. thanks. scott.

you might want to check out the breather tube for the front axle. it connects where all the fitting for the front axle engagment, vac lines etc attach. its terminated at the area you are refering to as seeing it. on the top it should have a one way valve for air to get out, keep water out.
