Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) what is this !?!?!?!?!

my son just bought a 1999 3500 CTD dually 4x4, and theres an aftermarket rocker switch on the dash that he says has a small orange colored "muffler" looking icon inside a orange circle that lights up when he activates the switch, and there a whining type noise from under the hood when its on. does anyone know what the heck it is? thanks

Mad Max had a switch on his supercharger, maybe you've found the secret switch for the turbo ON/OFF !

Seriously, not a familiar part. Maybe it has an exhaust brake, that's the only thing I can figure with on/off switch and a change in the sound...

That would most definately be a Jacob's exhaust brake you have in it. The swith is the activator. If you turn it on and just barely touch the throttle it should quit whining. If you do any towing you will love it. Just be greatful that the person or dealer you bought it from didn't try to get you to pay more for the truck because of it. I just bought one and the dealer soaked me 700 bucks for it and I installed it. If you leave the switch on and go down the road and let off the throttle you will feel it kick on after about 2 seconds and start slowing you down. I drive with mine on constant. It also makes a great way to warm up your truck on cold mornings... just make sure its on when you start the truck and it will be toasty warm after about 5 minutes. Hope this helps, Chris
