It seems like there has been a ton of posts/threads on bad axle U-Joints lately.

I just replaced mine so maybe I am now noticing it more. It just seems that everybody is having U-Joint problems these last 2-3 weeks.

Salt season is over and it has taken it's toll. Now that it's getting warm, parts are expanding and telling us about what the salt did to them.

And people have their windows down because it's not raining and they hear all those funny sounds. LOL

We don't use salt in the PNW.

We (ODOT) are using more and more Mag Chloride on HWY 26... ... I hope we don't see the same corrosion problems.....

Mag chloride and a polymer is what they now use in PA... it is bad. Keep your truck washed underneath and don't park in a heated garage in the winter months. I've seen car rot out in just a few years...

Around here, they use a mix of sand and salt... they start by spraying dry roads with a brine, then as the storm progresses they use varying salt/sand mixtures, them when it gets bad enough they just plow and use the mixture for weight.

However the sand they use around here is more like pea gravel...

Actually, Mag Chloride is far cheaper than sand... ... Plus, if it's applied properly, it will last for a week. I grew up just north of Pittsburgh, and I'd hate to see corrosion like THAT again... .
