it didn't seem to be warming up so i replaced it. Before i put it in the block, i plugged it in to make sure it was warming up. It was, so I installed it. Now, it's still not working, or I assume its not. I leave it plugged in all night and by morning it still starts as if it has been cold for a week. The intake heater is also still cycling. Got any ideas?
 
Just a thought is there power to the receptical you are plugging into?

The one I use is stitched on & off with a wall switch, I did forget to check it one time but only one time. Other than that recheck the connection where the wire connects to the block heater. When mine is plugged in for several hours I can feel warmth in the upper radiator hose.
 
Mine has never heated the engine enough to keep the grid heaters from coming on if it is like in the thirties but instead of having to drive 15 miles for the engine to heat up it starts coming up pretty quick. Feel the block, if it is warm to the touch then it is working. bg
 
Mine only heats the block to 90* or so... Depending on the wind I may not get the wait to start light, but the grid heater always cycles.
 
Block is cold, Wait to start light stays on a long time, I'm certain it is not working, just can't figure out why, especially since it's a brand new block heater and it was getting warm in my hand before i installed it. I flushed the coolant too just to be sure, and still no improvement.
 
Simple electrical troubleshooting. No audiable sizzle (you may have a 30 sec delay after plugging it in) then you have no power.



Start at the outlet - check for power

Then check the cord - use a multimeter to check at the engine end of the cord for 120v AC



Watch out for those GFCI protected outdoor outlets. A little blowing snow and sometimes they trip.
