Anyone here ever have back surgery?

Wisdom of Steven Wright

When my wife and I lived in Alaska, we would do alot of our grocery shopping at COSTCO. As your leaving COSTCO through the doors there was a hot dog vendor set up there. Every time we went we had to stop and get a couple as we walked out of the store. They were absolutely the best. The last few times we have been to the store we have tried a brand or two, but can not seem to find one the rivals our beloved "dogs" in Alaska. It seemed to be cross between sausage and a hot dog. It didn't seem to have the tougher casing of a sausage but some of the susage taste was there.....

We are sitting here trying to find something for dinner and realized we are both craving hot dogs and chili. Then started talking about our Alaskan "dogs" .

I like the natural casing dogs. Kowalski's are good but probably the best are the Kogell's Viennas. Oo.

I love a good Chicago dog (Mustard, onion, green relish, sprouts, celery seed and those tiny hot peppers) either in Chicago or a funky little place on the U of M campus in Ann Arbor.

I just realized that I would probably get alot of replies with various geographical favorites... ..... I am jealous of those like you BigHammer who have had the pleasure of these great dodgs from cities who have been known for them. Here in SW Louisiana Hot Dogs are not a favorite around here compared to the crawfish and shrimp.

So lets change the "Favorite Hot Dog" question to:

Favorite Store bought Dog:

Favorite City/Regional Dog (Not sure what else to call it):

When i was young we used to buy these super cheap dogs that were red and would turn the water red when you boiled them, now I have moved up to Oscar Myers. Have to wasit for them to go onsale though kinda pricey at 350 a pack

I haven't tried them, but my son will make a special trip to Home Depot for a hotdog and I never have a problem getting him to go there to pick something up, because he grabs a dog every time he's there.

Although I will eat an occassional dog, I preffer sausage. One of those crossbred sausage/hotdogs from Alaska sounds pretty good though.

QVC had a special valve on some hotdogs a few days ago.

If we can find the ultimate hotdog, maybe we'll be able to mail order some :)

Lets see how many people have been here.

Jimmy John's Pipin Hot on 202 a couple miles north of the Del state line. I think its been there since the 1940's.

I swear... ..... Sometimes I wonder if I live in the wrong part of the country. Cajun food is good, but my mouth also gets greedy for good ol' American Food.

Its true... . wow... ..... "And for your convenience, Auto-Delivery is available"

Got to love your dogs to want to set up auto-delivery.

Thanks Doc... That was good.

Trust me, they have the biggest and best homemade brats, hot dogs, and meat sticks that I've found here in Wisconsin. Brats and dogs are available smoked or unsmoked; plain, Italian, or Hungarian spices. Best of all, they ship nationwide!!

They're not the cheapest in price, but quality meats always cost a little bit more! :)

Hebrew national are pretty good. Their reduced fat ones are indistinguishable from the regular ones taste wise.

I also like Nathans and Sabrett.

I like the Boarshead brand the best though.

Eric

BTW these are all store bought.

CP, your description sounds like a Vienna Sausage. Used to get those from a Vendor on Pearl Street Mall, Boulder, CO. Fast Eddies Chicago dogs, came with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoe wedges, cucumber wedges and some funky peppers that would come back to haunt you about 4 hours later.

It's the dogs that get cooked on them hot rollers that have that leathery outer shell. Great, now I'm hungry.
