Here is an email I received the other day.

After watching the news about Katrina, here's what I have learned.

1. There are no white people in New Orleans.

2. Only black families were seperated in the rescue effort.

3. If you are hungry after a hurricane steal a big screen TV

4. No other city was effected by the hurricane.

5. Now that there will be $50 billion dollars worth of improvements to New Orleans, all the thugs, rapists, and looters are in your city.

6. There was a limb blown off a tree in Alabama.

7. There was heresay of some type of damage in Mississippi.

8. Dont thank the people who rescue you, just complain you havent got a $2000 debit card.

Refugees came here to Salt Lake city..... Some have been quoted as saying 'were not going back!'... ...

Can't wait til they get a taste of our winter... hope it is very cold for them... . like -10 or so... . hehe ... . They will be packin' (not much) and beeting feet for the south again! I can hope!!

Good to see FINALLY some other nations sending money and help teams to aid the recovery... . Any other time before, they send sympathy an nothing else..... now after the tsunami when we went over there in a big way, the other nations are feeling guilty I guess. .

Sure is. :( I think the looters should be shot (dead) on sight.

i have a buddy on the inside, they are and they are still looting to this day, if a body goes through the morge with a bullet hole it gets tagged as a drowning

Racial comments (whether direct or cloaked) aren't going to be tolerated here - please keep it above board.

Great-- we cannot even discuss race. That's pretty sad. I'd suspect that the majority of TDR members can discuss race without being racist.

It's TRULY sad that fewer and fewer people know the difference. Thank you, PC America.

For those of you who don't know the difference: Race discussions discuss the apparent role of race or describe anecdotal observations on the topic of race.

Racism is assigning a lower status or worth to someone based on their race.

By way of illustration:

Racial statement: "Most listeners of rap music are black, in my experience"

Racist statement: "That guy probaby is lazy or can't get a job because he's black"

The confusion between racial and racism is deliberate-- it's designed to protect the handful of powerful who make very comfortable lives ensuring that other (minority) folks never attain similar success.

e. g. Jesse Jackson, Kwese Mfume, Al Sharpton, Randall Robinson, etc. all claim to represent Black America. Yet all the have done is further ingrain the culture of victimhood that leads to failure (and refusal to accept responsibility for it). Let's face it, if they helped Black Americans succeed, then they'd be out of jobs, since they are presently employed as professional grievance mongers.

I find it troubling that the black Americans doing the most to help blacks (like Bill Cosby) get shouted down, while the manipulators, liars, and demogogues get praised heaped on them and limitless media attention.

No racist bone in my body-- I'm sick and tired of black america being manipulated-- BY "civil rights" leaders!

MLK, Jr is rolling in his grave. His vision has been mutated and twisted by a power-hungry few who like life at the top, having arrived there at the expense of the "fellow" blacks they claim to care about so much.

I heard the same from someone who came to Iowa. I bet most have never been this far north and seen real snow in person. I've seen -35* ambient temp and -90* wind chills before. They'll just LOVE that. :-laf :-laf You are spitting ice cubes and wizzing icicles. :-laf :-laf :-laf

Something like 2000 arrived here also, just what we need!! Also, when someone tells you to evacuate and you stay put and hide out... ... well... ... .

What I've learned since Katrina

The mayor of N. O. and the Gov. are idiots.

1) Inadaquate leevies.

2) No evacuation plan

3) Hundreds of school buses left under water (too uncomfortable for adults)

4) No emergency supplies at the SuperDome

5) They had to be begged by the Feds to evacuate the city

6) Would not allow supplies to be brought to the shelters (convention center and superdome)

7) Would not allow people to walk out of the city. They were turned back, left to die.

8) Would not activate the national guard

9) Would not ask the Feds for assistance

10) After all of the above, blame the Feds.

11) Feds step in and advise the mayor to not let people back into N. O.

12) Mayor defies advice from Feds and allows people back in, even as another huricane approachs the gulf.

13) Gov. says this is not the time for politics and we need to work together. (Duh!!)

My favorite part is how all the news covered afterwards was the looting, violence and negative behavior of people. Then I read in the paper on Sunday that "experts" (news media experts) are saying it was nowhere near that bad, and the "public" (not the news media) made it out to be much worse than it was. Apparently people were only looting to get essential survival supplies, only a handful of those people in the store were actually stealing (most were just hanging out to see what was going on or were there to stop a friend from stealing). And there's no evidence that anyone shot at that helicopter. That was just a reason to stop rescuing people. Oh yeah, and crime was no higher in the city of New Orleans the week after the hurricane than it had been before. Nevermind the fact that most of the population was gone. But it wasn't the news media that made up any of the negative stories because they're there to do the responsible thing.

As I read the article, I couldn't help but keep from laughing the whole time. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was reading a satire story on the editorial page.

Way to go Hohn!

You da MAN! Thanx for eloquently, and politely, making an argument most people are leery of gettiing into. I am not patient enough to do so very often. I usually tell idiots that they are idiots. DK.
