Laptop question

Happy Birthday Tazzen.

I have a question for all those CBers out there, What make of radio do ya have, I have a Connex 3300 Hi Power 10meter modded to CB Band. Curious on what kind of antennas you guys have on your rigs, I am currently with Barjan 42inch mirror mounts screwed into the side of my toolbox. but looking for something better if there is something out there

I have for my trucking adventures a couple that I rotate between. I have 2 Galaxy 88HL's,an older Galaxy Super Pluto,3 Belgium made old President Grant exports(which I do not use anymore for fear of them being stolen)and my new one which has 0 seat time on it with me being off work a Magnum S-9. I will either run a 300 Grey 4 stage amp or a Davemade M200 variable on them at will. There are alot of antennas which I have run and I have a closet full I would give away if they didn't have to be shipped. I just looked for you all and laying in the basement where I store my radio equipment are 3 Nugatrons(huge Coil Springs),a Super Penetrator, numerous Wilsons(1000,2000,5000),an original "Rooster Booster"(built before rooster sold out to Francis),and way too many Francis antennas in varying lengths,LOL. Currently the preferred antenna gun for me is built by someone out east here who works with me and he now calls them "TrickSchitt" antennas. I have yet to find a antenna with a broader tuning band and that carries a carrier anywhere near as good... ... Andy

I have a Cobra 29 Classic LTD with a Wilson 36" mirror mount setup.

The radio transmits fine. The built in speaker is a POS. The squelch control is not very good compared to other CB's I have had.

Ahh, Where to start?!

I have 2 Connex 3300's, both with Galaxy 88 Finals, Tweaked and peaked, dead keying 6, swinging 38; With Chrome Jeweled Peterbilt Toggle Switch extensions for all the knobs.

I also have a 1996 Model Cobra 29LTD, Connex Board, Talkback (on a switch) Solid Chrome case, also with Chrome jeweled Peterbilt toggle switch extensions.

I will only use an RK56 Mic, also chrome, as it sounds better than an ASTATIC 636L.

I also have a 75 watt Palomar Linear Amp, which is in the shop getting BOMBED right now.

I have a Wilson 1000 Mag mount, Wilson 2000 with 10" Shaft, a custom antenna from the 406 Chrome & CB Shop (Weatherford, TX) called the MASTER BLASTER... I have had the best results with that antenna, well, at least till I got the Wilson Mag Mount.

That's my inventory for y'all!

-Chris-

2- Cobra 29's. One is a Earnhardt, Jr. Edition, other is WX NW ST. Used to have a 29 Classic

1- Cobra 25 NW ST

1- Midland 77-255 ESP

A few old Pace 23 channel CB's that were given to me quite a few years ago. They still work, at least the last time I fired one up, they did. :D

would it be a good plan to buy some new antennas, i am looking at a pair of 5 foot firestik II's, new bases, and 18' of coax from firestik company. I plan to use to mounts off the barjans.

Chris. .

I'd BOMB the Palomar amp right out of sight. Take that extra money you would invest in that POS and buy a good Davemade or X-Force and you'll have all the amp you will ever need. The Palomar amps are junk to begin with and all you do by spending more money on making them work better is lighten your wallet. The X-Force X-80 keys 80 and swings 270 with 5 watts of input drive and the Davemade M80 with 5watts of input drive keys 80 swings 240 but if you up the input drive to 15 watts it will key 120 and swing 400. Both are heads above any of the other "amps" out there.

Be careful with what your tech man is doing for you. The addition of the "Galaxy" finals in a Connex 3300 really does nothing for your radio except lighten your wallet again. Plus, those things should be have more "swing in their thing" than 38 watts. I have seen some 3300's keying 6watts swinging as high as 70 watts and still have their amc circuits still intact and unclipped. Always remember, loud is good but over driven and distorted is bad.

Kissfan. .

Why use 2 antennas?. To do a properly installed co-phased system you will not have the proper distance between them and all you will end up doing is lightening your wallet also. One quality antenna, properly placed and tuned along with good coax cable will out perform any co-phased system on our trucks... ... . Andy
