I'm a dyno dummy

DeLorme - Street Atlas USA 2004

Just finished dynoing on a dynojet dyno and the numbers were lower than before on a mustang dyno which is closer to real world numbers? This dyno put a baseline on a 03 HO 6sp dodge at 229hp doesntg that seem low? My 02 with just the 275's and box turned off only made 253hp and with a comp drag without the pump wire (ez mode) only made 293hp it made 322 on the mustang dyno which is right?

Those HO numbers seem low... An HO will usually make between 240 and 260.

I have seen a lot of variance on Mustang dynamometers, but the Dynojets seem to be pretty close, depending on correction factor. The Mustangs have a lot of inputs that can be changed, wheras the Dynojets do not. This, in my opinion, makes the Dynojets more reliable and accurate--less variables affecting the outcome.

Basically, choose one dyno (type and location) and stick with it. This is the only way you will be able to accurately monitor what you are doing to your truck.

The 03 is the only truch that was close to stock to get a baseline, it has a volumizer, afe intake and full 4" exhaust with a 6 sp. with the box turned off on switch it only dynoed 228 to 232 can't remember exactly, with the box on 100hp setting it netted 312hp, nearly a 100hp top end gain but stock numbers seem low to me.

Hello guys just wanted to jump in and give my 2 cents. I agree with Evan on the accuracy of the Dynojet. I will have to say I like to Mustang Dyno over the Dynojet. I believe the Mustang can load our trucks better than the Dynojet as long as your tires do not slip. Like posted above stick with one dyno if you can, this is the best way to keep track of hp and tq gains after bombing. Just keep in mind that weather and fuel can also change your #'s from one dyno run to another. Last Dynojet #'s 396hp @ 2900 RPM 752tq @ 2400 RPM w/1300 egt's Mustang 388hp @ 2700 RPM 852tq @ 2200 RPM 30 sec load test, shut down truck @ 2700 w/1550 egt's.

Seen it twice now. Each one followed me on the dyno at our last two dyno days in Ft Collins.
