Just wondering if anyone has installed a chrome or polished stainless exhaust tip on their 2003. I'm not planning on doing any immediate mods to the exhaust but would like to dress up the tip. I noticed Genos sells a Megs stainless, any comments or experience with these. Mopar also has a chromed one that clamps on. Any comment or experience with these would be helpful. :) By the way, check out my pics, finally established a Readers Rigs Gallery. More to pics to come down the road.

Yes, I have one on my truck. I got it to keep the soot off the rear of the dually fender. I had one on my '00 truck and it did a good job keeping the soot off the dually fender. The factory tailpipe wasn't designed for a dually.

It's an easy install. Clean the factory tailpipe and slide it on. I put a pop rivet in the tip at the upper end to hold it on after I decided how much I wanted the extension to extend out from under the truck.

I had the 4" Megs on my 98. 5 3500 for 4 years and it still looked good when I sold it. I liked the rolled edge (good idea on stainless). I think the 5" looks better on the duallie, and, so far no pitting or rust on the chrome :D . I have been very satisfied with any accessories that I have purchased from Geno's Garage, the prices are fair, fast shipping and quality goods.

Iv'e got the same turn down style tip (in chrome) that Ben does. I bought it from a trucking supply co. (Feeway truck in Kirkland Wa. ) for $23.

Exhaust tips

I have had 3 of Geno's tips (1 Megs 4 in and two 5 in Monster tips) on different trucks. I presently have the 5 in monster on my 03 SRW. The chrome on the monster is excellent and will not rust or chip. The Megs is just as good but does not shine quite as well as the chrome 5 in does. I also tried a Summit 5 in. stainless tip on my buddies truck, it discolored after 1 day of hauling a 24 footer stacked with round bales of hay. Go with either of the tips from Genos and you won' t be disappointed. :)

Thanks for all of the replies. I realize this isn't a huge expense, but I kind of hate to throw money down on something I will ultimately not like. I appreciate your help as always. :)

CKruse,

I have a Megs chrome exhaust tip that I would be willing to part with. Its a matter of personal preference and I ended up preferring the look of the stock exhaust after I installed the tip. I just used a little WD40 and a scouring pad to clean it up and it now looks pretty decent. PM me if you are interested and we'll work something out.

i dont like the little 8" clamp on jobs i think they look cheap. Last week i ordered a turn down that is 18" long. I will cut the oem pipe 3" inches after it staightens out so i can slide the bell of the 4" pipe over it. when you look from behind the truck all you will see is a chrome turn down pipe not some little clamp on dohickey. i ordered it from www.berubes.com i wanted a miter cut but they dont have it in 18" i was going to make it look oem but just chrome. . oh well the turn down should look ok

I agree with you CAT...

I would like to see some pics of the turn down pipe when you're done. Sounds like it might look good.

CatCracker, I would also be very interested in seeing pics of your results. The turn down may also do a better job of keeping the soot off of the truck by aiming it at the road!:)

When I first got my truck, I got a bit of oily soot on the fender, bumper and even the tail gate. I get no soot now with 7K on the truck, it really burns clean. My other diesels would leave the back of the truck pretty dirty.

I didn't like the cheasy clamp either so I used 3 SS screws to hold it on. An 18' tip works great, cut off your stocker just after the bend and it fits perfect. I think a straight tip looks better than a turn down but this way I keep the soot off my bumper and trailer.
