I have a 02' HO 4x4 6 speed w/ 4. 10. Everything on the truck is stock so I am just wanting to know what kind of gains I could expect from adding the following accessories.

Banks 4" exhaust with Power Elbow and downpipe

Banks Ram Air intercooler housing

Amisol higher flow air filter

I guess my goals are to get a little more power and hoping to get a little better fuel economy, but do it by just allowing the engine to breathe a little easier. I bought this truck with the long term in mind and I don't want to do anything that might decrease the duribility of the truck.

I currently run Amisol oil in the engine and I am thinking of adding a Mag-Hytec differential cover too. I run synthetic in the axles too. I do have exhaust temp, boost, and fuel pressure gauges.

Thanks,

Thad

I'd go with the $299. 00 aluminized exhausts now offered everywhere. Our intercoolers work fine. I'm running an Amsoil air filter,no performance gain over stock.

if you have long term in mind get a fuel pressure guage and a vulcan big fuel line kit or fass system ,then do intake and exhaust. just my opinion.

Banks has no intercooler for the 2nd gen.

Power gains from exhaust and intake will be minimal.

A diesel engine needs more fuel, to build more power. This is where products like the Edge EZ, Edge Comp, TST, and many more come into play.

BTW, where are you located?

Diesels do not create any condensation like a gasser does, therefore aluminized exhausts are more than adequate. Put it this way, the guy that did my exhaust does fully custom stainless street rod exhaust systems that cost thousands of dollars and told me "if it made a difference to go to stainless, don't you think I would have it on mine" As for the other items, I don't have any experience with them.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I just joined TDR and have spent a lot of time in the search area. This is a great forum and hope to be able to come to some of regional meetings if ever time allows!!

After reading a lot of post this week on Banks, I now have some mixed feelings on which brand of exhaust to go with. It seems there is a lot of service & electronic related problems with banks.

From what I gather from reading some posts here is what I have noticed on Banks:

Positive:

Hardware parts (exhaust, techicooler) are high quality pieces of equipment

Neg:

customer service after the sale

problems with electronics

not truthful with customers and warranty voided with D/C w/electronics

What I also gathered is that some folks think that their stuff is overpriced and if they had it to due over again would have chose a different option.

So here is now my question. I am now just interested in just the exhaust turbo back. Which brand to go with. I hear a lot of positive comments on MBRP, but they are a canadian company. Nothing against them, but all else being equal I would like to support an American company. I have about the same price on the Banks and MRBP. I have decided to go with a 304 stainless system. My ultimate preference is Borla, but they do not make an exhaust for the 2nd generation truck yet. Is there another company out there that I should consider?

Thanks,

Thad

I went with Proflow 5inch, they build units for BullyDog. Sweet sound. But you need guages first. Then TST. SBC clutch. BIG injectors.

I used a Banks Brake & exhaust. The parts are excellent quality & the fit was perfect. The Monster Muffler kills the drone & leaves a fine sound. I noticed no increase in noise in the cab. Retail price is a bit high. Rip could save you quite a few dollars there if you are willing to go with aluminized steel.

My Banks exhaust droned pretty bad. I ended up adding a second muffler at the location of the stock resonator.

I'd get exhaust from Rip Rook, mentioned above.

I'm going with a RR exhaust (source automotive), but I'm adding my own muffler from www.spintechmufflers.com

Spintech is the muffler division of Dr. Gas-- they guys who do all the Nextel Cup exhausts. I figure they know something about exhaust.

That's really odd. Mine had no drone. Did yours have the new design "Monster Muffler" with the small expansion chamber in it?

I have the exact same truck. My first mod was the MBRP 5" exhaust. The hardest part of the install was removing the old. Really nice install (a little time consuming, about 3 hours). Nice mellow sound, no drone.

Noticable differences:

(1) Turbo spool up is much quicker (not the normal jerk at a certain RPM).

(2) EGT's went down.

MBRP 5" (4"down pipe) is very reasonable on EBAY.

One final note: You really need a recriprocating saw to remove the old system.

Thanks again for everyone's imput. After doing a lot of reserch on exhausts I believe I will go with the MBRP system. The cost was a little less than the Banks system. I think either system would have been fine... but I will take the savings and put it towards a KORE suspension kit for when my warrenty is over (3 more years).

I already have a sharp blade on the "saw-saw". I might get my brother to come over and help. Not that I think it will take two... but workin' on your truck in the garage with some music and some good company is always a good time in my book.

I did go to Rips website and looks like he does have some nice stuff. Since you guys recommend him so much I will probably buy my Mag-Hytec differntial cover off of him.

Thanks again.

Thad

I will post again when I get it on in a few weeks.

I put a KORE Chase system on my '01. 5 last October. It's amazing what it did for the ride. Both more comfort & better stability over the washboards. I wish I'd done it sooner. Maybe even before the power mods. It's that good. I wouldn't worry about the warranty. :D
