I straight piped my truck a few months back and love the sound, but on long trips it can get a little old. What kind of muffler are you guys running that keeps the same great sound but takes the edge off when your running down the highway?

Will

Yeah, I would go with the Magnaflow. Straight though performance!

No offense, but if it's too loud, your too old..... J/K.....

To loud = to old?? Hmmm I must be too old. Then again after this weekend at Martinsville (NASCAR RACE) I can't hear much anyhow.

But remember there is a difference between too loud and just plain obnoxious.

My truck is a daily driver so the sound, not the decible level is what is important. Now my GTX - that is loud and it sounds good! - But then again I don't use it as my daily driver.

Now what were we talking about - oh yea - mufflers!

Just make sure the muffler you get is not necked down inside to fit the larger pipe. Some of the part houses sell 3,4 and 5" mufflers, but the pipe size inside the muffler is only 2 1/2 - 3".

I just installed a 409 stainless steel 4" turbo to tail system from Diesel Performance Parts in Nashville, TN. It came with a 4" straight through muffler made from 304 stainless steel. I am very happy with the sound. It has the note of a straight pipe without the drone or decibel level. I don't know if they will sell just the muffler. Give them a call 615-251-1250.

Does anyone have a part number on the magnaflow muffler? Is it 3" all the way through?

Thanks for the replies.

Will

Hey Will, I just run a 4" resonator from renker that you can get over at Johns Truck Parts in Wyano. Pretty reasonable in price too. I met a guy over at Andys last week and I have his number and he told me he has a 4" stainless muffler he wants to sell. Let me know. You know, if you put bigger squirters in it it will be even louder. :{ :D

I just had "Walker" muffler installed on my son-in-laws '97 CTD. It is my understanding that "Walker" and "Magnaflow" are the same. This is 3" all the way through and is good quality. It is available at Summit Racing. Their part number is WLK-21468 and is $48. 99 plus shipping. Good luck-John Withers

My 4" magnaflow is the same diameter all of the way through. I don't have the P/N readily available, but if I dig through my files I may be able to find it. I got it as part of the system from Jerry Jardine in Wyoming. You can also try Rip Rook (don't have contact info). He has several reasonably priced systems, and maybe mufflers.

Hey Will,

Go down to Oppman Auto Parts in Mount Pleasant, across from Shop-N-Save and have them get you a Walker 21468. I bought a few from them and they are right around $50. It has a 3" inlet/outlet so it will just go in place of your straight pipe.

Hope this helps.
