I called jegs today and that guy said that his autometer gauges were not for diesels, he said i would have to call a diesel parts store and i said ok, what kinda gauges should i get, the mechanical or electrical? all i want is boost and egt, allso does installing gauges void the warranty??

Hoss, you need to look at all the guages out there and decide which ones you like and which ones suit your budget, There was a thread a while back that had a lot of pictures of different guages in it. I prefer the electrical guages, and the SPA digital guages in particular. Do a search on guages and you will have more reading than you want to do.

Forget what Jegs said, You can USE any gauge on a diesel, there is no reason you cant, he is just missinformed. I use Autometer gauges ALL the time. Oil pressure, Fuel Pressure, Oil Temp, EGT, they are the same, gas or diesel. Call www.summitracing.com at 1-800-230-3030, they have ALOT more then they list on there site. They have a 0-1600 degree EGT gauge that is perfect for Diesels. The boost gauge they stock has Vacum AND boost from 0-20 psi. that is fine if your truck is stock (Nothing more then an exhaust and/or a K&N. If you have a performance box or a bigger turbo, you will need a higher reading boost gauge. try www.jannettyracing.com they stock the EGT gauge, Thermocouple, and boost gauges in 0-35psi and 0-60psi in all sizes and styles (Ultra-lite, Sport-Comp, etc). They also stock lots of mounting setups ("A" Pillars, mounting cups, etc. ). Also go to www.autometer.com and see the different options you have. GOOD LUCK

Hoss, LSMITH nailed it. There are a ton of gauges to choose from. Surf the net, pick a brand and go from there. I have both mechanical and electric in my truck and like both. I just installed a SPA pressure/temp. , my first SPA and have to say that the quality is great !!!

Hoss,

I'm still partial to Westach. A good American made analog gauge at a reasonable price.

Digital units have many advantages like exact readout and peak hold, but that doesn't mean as much to me as a quick glace at four devices in a three pod pillar while passing someone on a hill while towing. At that point I have other things to focus on like *the road*, then calculating in my mine if 1193 is getting to hot for EGT. Ok, that is an easy one, but hopefully you get the idea. It is easy to scan all your gauges for abnormalities given the known standard position they should be in.

I have Autometer Sports Comp (Boost, Exhaust)
on an A-Pillar. They look and work great.

I ordered them from Summit Racing.

Hoss, Get the SPA DG 111 Boost/Pyro. I just installed it on my eth. It's great, fast response, has High point memory, etc. Call up Nowel (HVAC) He's a really great guy. His web site is www.performancediesel.net. A ton of guys have bought from him, and he is a great supporter of TDR members. His prices are lowest I could find.

I agee 100% with OILBRNR. I have the Westac guages and like them very much. Never cared for digital speedometers and feel the same about looking at an instrument. Dave

EMD, while what ya say makes sense, its not true according to at least one member on here. He had an "incident" which melted down a piston, and the culprit appeared to be a bad thermocouple for his pyrometer. IIRC, when he contacted the maker of his guages, he was informed that diesel exhaust tends to erode the probe and thus it reads incorrectly.

Another note: Some boost guages do not go high enough for the Cummins application. 50 PSI seems to be the recommended parameter.

It would do well to research the specs on ANY guage and accessory to see if its compatible.

Which gauges look most like th stock gauges? Just curious to see if there are any that come close...

When i was talking about the gauges from Jegs, i was referring to Autometer Gauges. I have spoken to them directly on the subject and have used 3 different styles of there Thermocouples and every Thermocouple THEY make are fully compatible with diesel exhaust. I was told this on two occasions by there tech help department. So in regards to the person who had a meltdown due to a faulty Thermocouple, was it an Autometer Thermocouple?. Autometer manufactures boost gauges in ranges of 0-20, 0-35, 0-60 and 0-100. The 0-20 psi is the model Jegs stocks and that is fine for a stock 24 valve. And Autometer seems to have the rest of the field covered. Anybody running more then 100psi?. And there EGT gauges go from 0-1600 degrees which is plenty of range for the Rams. Alot of these High performance mailorder places that cater to gas cars have no clue about Diesels. Becasue the selesperson does not know what he is talking about, they just lost a sale. The best thing to do is know your part numbers before you call a discount supply like Jegs or Summit. Call Autometer directly and ask for the Tech department. Tell him what your application is and what you want and they will give you the part numbers you need. Then there will be no need to second guess anything or be worried that what you ordered wont work. Make sure you CALL Autometer. Alot of the stuff they make is not even on there website, you have to ask them. Good luck

Go Janetty. They are Great.
Sorry about the Large Image Size, But this is what I bought from them. I JUST HAD Ro get the ATS Manifold #ad
the stock manifold cracked, and Literally became two pieces.
