Hey guys, need help in identifying what model Dana axles I have on my truck. Its a 2001 2500HD. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Eric

Eric,

Dana 70 is in 2500's with the automatic trans. Dana 80 is in 2500's with 5 or 6-speed trans, and all 3500's regardless of trans.

Check in your glove box. It show which axle size you have #ad

Thanks Frank,

That was the first place that I went, but all it told was the weight cap. 5200# frt and 6500# rr. I also checked tha door jambs, and any tags on the axles themselves. Pretty sure about a dana 70 in the rear but are they dana 60's or 70's in the frt?

Eric

Cat, I am glad you asked that. I am planning on getting a new cover before summer vacation. What kind do you have in mind?

Guys,
Maybe I am wrong, but I was under the impression that I had a Dana 70 up front and a Dana 80 in the rear, or so I was told.

I am going with the Mag-Hytec cover. Called and ordered the one for the Dana 70, hope that it fits my rear axle. They also told me the Dana 60 model for the front axle would be out about the middle of this year.

Pete,

Thanks, that seems to be the answer I've been getting. Like Quadzilla said, I was also under the impression that I had an 80 in the rear and a 70 in the front. I don't know where I got that idea, but glad I'm not the only one. I guess I'll find out for sure when the new cover gets here. Thanks again. Sorry for the long post.

Eric

I guess I am still confused, I was told the 6spd have a heavier or bigger rearend than the automatic. When time to order I'll ask the guy at Mag-tech. I think that is the kind I want.
