I have taken the truck to the Cummins shop and had them go over it. Good motor, so I feel good on making some HP improvements. I just bought a straight piped 5" system for the truck and was wondering what to do next.

98 12v 165k miles automatic 4X4.

Any Ideas?

the first thing that needs to be done before fueling mods is to install gauges, a popular combo would be egt/boost/transmission temp, egt is vital when going for power and boost is nice to know when you are reaching the limit of the turbo or head gasket

First upgrades i would do are gauges and a gsk and a better air filter. Then chose a torque plate-the profile of the plate depends on how much power you are looking for and if you are going to modify/beef up the transmission.

Now that you have room for air out - I'd do better (more) air in, look for something that'll folw close to 1000 cfm for future upgrade compatability. You can do a fueling plate - but depending on miles on trans you might be in for a bout. Trans. , then bobms away. You should be safe with minor stuff but big hp will surely toast the trans. Bite the trans. bullet and then it's no holds barred. Enjoy the ride.

Since you already have gauges and an exhaust. I'd do the performance mods in the following order:

1) Intake/air cleaner

2) 3K Gov Springs

3) #10 Fuel Plate (you could go with a different plate depending on if you won't be towing).

4) Injectors

5) Water/meth injection (you probably don't need this but it could provide a bit more power and reduce EGTs)

You could do an exhaust manifold replacement but personally I didn't see near as much performance increase as I did with the fuel plate and injectors. At some point fairly soon after you install the fuel plate and injectors your transmission will probably start to fail if it is still stock.

good plan But

I would insert this here...

1) Intake/air cleaner

2) 3K Gov Springs

2. 5) Trasmission upgrades :{

3) #10 Fuel Plate (you could go with a different plate depending on if you won't be towing).

4) Injectors

5) Water/meth injection (you probably don't need this but it could provide a bit more power and reduce EGTs)

Piers told me the #10 plate is best for our pump.

I was told moving it back . 040 would save a stock 5 sp clutch.

So a little more and your auto should be ok.

Then as you beef things up. You can move the plate forward as needed for more power.
