I finally got around to adding an EZ a couple of weeks ago. What a kick! Yesterday, my son-in-law and I installed a set of AutoMeter gauges, and they are a hoot, too. NON-TOWING, I'm seeing 14-15 PSI fuel pressure at idle, going momentarily to 9-10 in heavy acceleration, then back up to 12-13 PSI at 70mph. EGT's (pre-turbo) run from 450 at idle to maybe 1150 in heavy acceleration up to 75 or 80mph. Boost is my questionable area. I see 0 PSI boost at idle, about 7-8 PSI at 70mph steady state. Under heavy acceleration, boost will go up to 18 PSI, immediately drop back to 17-17. 5, like the waste gate was a little slow catching up. I kind of expected 20 PSI at full throttle accelerating. My truck is an auto - no elbow. The thing runs great.

Your fuel pressure is great, like a new LP, I know about that! Your boost is normal if it's taken off the MAP sensor. I was only seeing 19-20 with my HO 6speed until I put my elbow in. 1150F EGT's are really good too, If I do the same run to 85MPH I'll be seeing over 1400 with 35LBS of boost!

All is normal and actually really good!

Along those same lines, I run 750* - 800* at 65 MPH with my setup, I thought that was getting high, getting on the highway it hits 1000* pretty quick. You are golden with that FP reading though. Boost for me at 65 is in the 6 - 8 lbs range.

johncameron: I have put up a post about '01 Bombing questions, My question is I have a Bully Dog Torque Dog that I bought used. I dont know if they come with a boost elbow or not. Could you please describe your boost elbow, location and type?

THANKS

Richard

This is the boost elbow I am running. I baught it from the TDR classifieds. He is still selling them (thats where I got the photo). Remove the stock elbow that is not adjustable on the front side of the turbo just under the intake hose. after you get it installed you can adjust the boost by turning the allen screw in to increase the boost and turning it out to bring the boost back to stock. It works by bleeding off the pressure that goes to the wastegate to open it.

Don't forget that extra boost can cause an overboost code if it is picked up by other sensors. I dont know if the Bully Dog box has a boost fooler or not, the edge boxes do.

Check your intercooler boots. You could be losing some boost due to loose clamps or cut hoses. The intercooler in and out lines are VERY close to the inner fender sheet metal and if you don't bend it back, you may have holes!

My 01 has 37,000 miles and had abrasions before bending back the metal, but no holes.

My son's 01 has 90,000 miles and was cut through. No smoke, but no power.

Your boost guage may read normal pressure, but the FLOW isn't into the cylinders.
