so the older "Olga" gets the more often she is throwing codes. The ignition key thing (on/off cycles) has never worked for me.

What OBD code reader (not a tuner....I've got to watch my budget) is recommended for the ISB 5.9? I know there are issues with some OBD readers and the strange combination of ECM/PCM etc.

Thanks in advance......

And just in case I do find some extra cash that my wife doesn't know about....what trouble code readers/tuners should I consider?

Please consider that I live in Commiefornia and have to get my truck smogged (visual only - but they do connect to the OBD).

Thanks again....

I use an OBD2 reader from Harbor Freight. I am on my second one in 8 years since the screen on the first one died after 4 years.

Other then the screen eventually dying, I had ZERO compatabilty issues with it and my 2005 5.9 ISB.

All cars and light trucks built and sold in the United States after January 1, 1996 were required to be OBD II equipped. In general, this means all 1996 model year cars and light trucks are compliant, even if built in late 1995.
