I have put a straight thru exhaust on the 04. 5 600 and got that end opened up and now want to go with a intake system to open that end up. What are my options for this on the 04. 5? Thanks for any help and please share your experiences with your own intake systems.

I'll probably get flamed on this, but I recently added the AFE box and proguard 7. I also have a torque tube. I have noticed that the filter minder now pegs in the red zone, whereas before it barely moved. Not sure if this is due to velocity of air past the new air filter mounting location, or the proguard 7 is more restrictive. This doesn't happen with the afe box on my duramax. Also, we just finished up some track testing last night, and did back to back with AFE box and with stock air box with 5000 miles on stock air filter. Net result: ET and MPH were EXACTLY the same for each (2 runs each). And I mean exactly. all within 1/4 mph of each other. I like the whistle, and it looks nice, but wondering if the $400 now was money well spent...

i thought the same thing a few months ago when i bought one at TiM ...

there is a very interesting post over on DTR regarding the location on the progard for the filter minder ...

they stated that if you place a piece of tubing on the filterminder and place the inlet up in the filter itself, not in the tube, then the minder, even the original sensitive ones, won't pull down ...

what you are seeing is a result of the velocity of the airflow in the tube ... whereas the filter minders where originally placed in a "low flow" area right above the filter

i haven't tried it but it makes sense...

p. s. not sure if the terminology is correct, but you get the drift ;)

that makes sense, similar to blowing accross the end of a straw in a glass of water will cause the water to rise due to the induced vacuum. I'll try the hose trick.

afe

I am running the afe intake system with the torque tube and the pro guard 7 filter. I installed the filter minder with the rubber hose and it pulls down about half way like the stock box did. I was only able to stay under 1300 *F on 3/3 with the stock box. I can run 4/4 with the afe.

Check out my readers rigs. Its K&N which most peole on this board really dont care for but It is 100% flawless, Looks good IMHO, Cheaper than AFE PG7, Plus you get a complete new intake tube with the kit (Thats refered to as the torque tube). No regrets with it at all!

Nobody has metioned the Scotty III with AFE filter. It's not the ProGuard 7, but it still works. I picked mine up used with the filter for around $75, much cheaper than the $300 or so for both brand new. Just an option.
