Got a few extra dollars to spend on my truck and am trying to figure where to add some power next. I was curious about how the box stacking worked  , and if anyone has something stacked with their Comp box. Its that or maybe a new intercooler... . :D

i too am thinking the same thing. from what i have learned on here, the Smarty works well with the comp if used on the non timing settings. Think i will get one myself once i upgrade the clutch.

If the pump wire is tapped for the extra fueling with the comp then the smarty is about your only choice as the comp already does timing and fueling.

From what I have read the intercoolers out there will not give much bang for the buck.

reading your sig I would jump to bigger injectors next. 100-150 hp sticks would make you happier overall rather than a different stack. Smarty is for down low fun but doesn't add much power.

I would get a smarty..... it is a awesome stack with a comp. I would also look into a set of injectors, but your turbo will start to be questionable if you did both. 100hp sticks would be ideal for your application.

Yeah, I have a set of 120HP sticks, just haven't got around to putting them in yet. Just researching all the options. As for the intercoolers, I've heard the the same thing. Not near the return for the dollar. Am going to upgrade the intercooler hoses though.

Go with the smarty, even though it doesnt give you much in HP gains, it does give you a MUCH wider power band, helping you hit peak HP faster and hang on to it LONGER. Second I have run my smarty with timing on and off with my comp box on and tapped, and when am wanting to get on the power and STAY on it I run both with timing, but usually just bangin around i run the smarty w/o timing. But I have run it with enough to know that it works and seems to work fine, I have had no issues with it.

I have the Smarty and the Edge-Comp with 275's. They work very well for my needs and occasional forays into the use of manuvering power on the freeway

You will enjoy the Smarty.

One question Mundgyver, when you said you had 275's, what size injector is that? I was asked one time which ones I had and all I know are that they where advertised as 60HP injectors and made by Bosch. I have some other ones that where advertised as 120HP injectors that are also made by Bosch. This question is actually for anyone, just thought I'd ask.

Get a smarty. I have a comp box stacked with my smarty and 80 horse injectors. The truck is still road freindly and egt's stay under control. I run both with timing and it runs great and smokes alot. Sometimes when im at the low rpms i can hear a timing rattle but other than that i love it. Smarty is the best investment you can make when stacking with another box. But the smarty alone isnt as impressive as i hoped it would be. If you stack another box you will need to look into a fass system if you dont already have one becuase it will starve the vp. I saw that you already have a clutch so you are ready to go with the smarty. If you dont have a big clutch IT WILL SLIP... . BAD.

What about upgrading to a drag comp? Then save for a better turbo to go with the new sticks.

The smarty was fun to drive, I will give it that, but didn't go out and buy one.

The stock injectors that I had in the truck when I bought it new were rated at 245 hp. I upgraded to the Boch motor home injectors, 275's which allowed me to have 275 hp with this motor before any other mods were done besides gages. This is more than ample power for towing and manuvering for my purposes.

If I am not mistaken a set of 275 injectors are generally the first step or smallest gain for injector upgrades. One benifit of using these over a bigger set was that I went from factory stock 5 holes in the tip to the 275's which had 7 smaller holes in the tip, allowing better atomization of the fuel. I gained hp, tq and best of all about 1 1/2 mpg overall.

When I put on the original Edge, it was another gain in economey and more hp and tq. I then upgraded to the Edge-Comp and tapped the wire and then got the smarty. :)

I have 187,000 + turns now on my original VP with no signes of weakness or problems so far. If I drive with everything turned off I can get just under 23 mpg which is not bad for a 4x4 that comes is at 7,650 lbs. ;)

Yeah, I'm looking at the Drag upgrade right now for my Comp. Won't have any fueling problems though w/ the HRVP44 and Fass 150. Think I should go all the way up to 120 hp injectors, or will the cause my egt's to get too high? Don't have a problem with egt's now, about 1050 at WOT with the Comp on 5/5. Even with a skidsteer behind me they don't get over 1100. Gotta find time to do all this though, with the jeep project in the garage taking up space and remodeling the basement to keep the wife happy..... :-laf

Oh yeah, as for a clutch, my Mitchell has done everything I've asked it to :D

I think the 120hp sticks will be pushing the limits of the hx40. I would get 100hp & I think you would have more useable power & a little less heat. Unless you plan on getting a super turbo soon... . then go 120hp. I would recommend a 3 flow from II. for you..... very nice smooth power & clean burning too. Just my $. 02.

Yeah, thats one of the reasons I haven't put the 120's in yet. They are still in the shrink wrap and original shipping box. Might see if I can send 'em back and downgrade to some 80's or 100's and in alittle while get the Drag upgrade. Just got my 40 on last fall, so not quite ready to ask the funds manager for money for another turbo. :-{} Plus, there are a few other things I want... . :D

Nothing against the 40, but if you are already seeing 1050 egt... ... you will peg the gauge with 120 sticks. The HX40 is a good charger.
