Off Roading 12 volt winch capacity

I've started to collect parts for my twin turbo buildup and currently run a HTT Hx40 as a single on my truck. My question is, other than a HT3B, what other turbos have you guys used with a 40? I'm curious, in case I see a good deal on a potential "big" turbo. I don't want to be looking for just a HT3B when there are other turbos that could work just as good. I'm looking to be in the 5-650HP range when finished, other than some bigger injectors I'm also going to get headstuds and O-rings, going by my sig, is there anything I may be missing?

switzer s400 is the usual other turbo used other then the ht3b supposedly the s400 is said to spool alittle easier then the ht3b but not sure on if it is for sure or not a run an hx35 and a ht3b now and it is not bad but take a bit to spool the ht3b but I haven't fine tuned it completely yet but I run 13. 03 in the 1/4 at 104mph with this setup and my mod listed in signature.

This should be interesting to see how many different turbos can really be used. There are always turbos for sale on ebay and local junk yards, but its hard to tell what will work good-any turbo can be adapted and made to spin, the question is which ones will perform good. What about turbos off two stroke detroits?

The first twin set up I built was the 40/3B back in '03. Later I built a 40/B2 (S400). The B2 is a quicker spooling turbo and makes more power. The downside is the whistle is a bit louder than the 3B. I made 648hp uncorrected with the 40/B2 combo on my '02.

So, basically any of the turbos in the 62-64mm compressor wheel size should work fine? I was actually wondering about the HTBG-B2, but wasn't sure. The B2 sounds good since you said it spools faster than the 3B. I just didn't want to have tunnelvision when search and possible overlook what would be a good turbo, Thanks guys. Especially since I want something very streetable, so fast spoolup is key.

Buddy had a pro52 and an H5. Not the fastest spool but definitely airflow. 1400* egt. Dyno numbers said aroung 630hp. Don't know specifics on it. I think an H5 would work for you and they're very quiet too.

GDMRTN, I'm not familiar with the H5, who makes it?

I thought about it some more, should I limit myself to 64mm? I don't want to go too big where it will take alot more fuel/air to spool. About what compressor size should I figure to draw the limit at? 66? I see the HTBG is a 57, so I think thats a bit on the small side, but at what size would lag start to become too apparent? I'm perfectly happy with the way my 40 spools now, I don't want to spool any slower than that, so with that as a reference point I'm open for opinions/advice.

Also, I am going to upgrade my injectors to the 100-120HP range, so I will have more fuel by the time I actually start this builup. But don't want to go overboard, I like being able to put it to the floor and not blackout my neighborhood if I choose to do so. :-laf Thats why I like my programmers as opposed to downloaders. Though, I'm not going to rule out a Smarty in the future;)

Anyone have much experience with the Aurora turbos? On the ATS site the specs put the 4K at a 63mm and the 5K at 71mm. I think the 5K is bigger than the range I am shooting for, but the 4K looks about right. I heard the Aurora turbos are Switzer based(S400?) True?

Just looked up the HC5A and that is way bigger than I'm looking for. I imagine even as a compound setup that thing would be laggy, I don't even want to think about the fuel required to fire it off. I'm thinking I need something between 62-70mm max. HT3B, B2, S400 variant, something in those areas.

There are a few other options just up from the size your looking at. I am running(going into the truck in the next few weeks) a HTT Super 4C which is pretty much the same size as a Big Brother. I will be am High Tech "Sled Puller 66" for the small charger. I problably could have gone a little larger yet on both chargers but figured for this year it should be alright. I have heard of ALOT of good things out of the S300's and I think I would sooner go that route than a HT3B if I had the choice. Not sure which housing style the S300's use though which speaking of housings... that is the main reason I went with the 4C instead of the Big Brother because it worked better for my piping.

Good luck... RyanB

Yes the 5A is rather large but can be used in a set of street driven twins just not for the faint at heart it dose take some work and a little bit of fuel to do it

Since this will be my first experience with a twin build-up, I'm learning as I go. Another thought came to me, for fitment reasons, I plan on trying to keep everything to 4" piping instead of 5", so if any of the primary turbos have a 5" exhaust size, I would rather rule them out. I just figure since I'm building it from scratch basically, with simplicity in mind, 4" pipe would make it easier to get things to fit. AND my exhaust is 4" already. Will 4" exhaust do me justice, or would I be bottlenecking a good setup that would noticeably benefit from 5" exhaust? I plan on putting a 5" stack on my truck, but tie it in to my current 4" exhaust. I would hate to stay with 4" tubing on my stack and replace it again down the road because my turbo/turbos need it. Any other little tips would be great from you guys that have been down this road before, Thanks again.

An HT60 works well. Its old school if you ask HTT but it works great. The comp wheel on the one I have is 2. 893" hope that helps.

Holset makes the H5. Don't know where it came from or any specs, I only know what he told me. I do know it made 60 psi peak boost and 1400* egt. I went for a ride in it! A little fender massage was needed for fitting. Yes, not for the faint of heart. A HT3B, S400, HT60, all a very good options. I like my HT3B. Keep us posted on your progress!

Guys, sorry for the stir over the H5. I found that what he had was actually an H4. It's a "step" smaller. Or a "step" larger than the HT3B. Don't hold me to this but I think a 550 CAT had an H4 on or a similar turbo. Still kinda large for the street but was lit at about 2000-2200 RPM. Sorry for the mixup.

Wonder how he got them to fit under the hood? Based on what I've seen under the hood of my Dad's PS, there isn't much room for anything, let alone another turbo PLUS all the associated plumbing. I know its been done, but man, thats alot of work for a motor I wouldn't use as an anchor... .
