The ratios do not match up with Dana axles of the appropriate capacity so I highly doubt they are Dana's. I meant to ask about that today and forgot to. I'll try to get ahold of my contacts tomorrow and see if I can find out. My bet is that they are AAM axles.

Steve can you also find out what the wheel and tire sizes are. 19. 5 I hope. It sure would make a nice, simple upgrade on a 3500.

Because of the DOT standards the wheels will not have the same bolt pattern as the 3500's..... Go look at a F550 and you'll see the difference in the wheels... . and I'm guessing that they might be the same wheels...

Steve !!!!! would you ask about the bolt circle of the wheels... it would be nice if they interchange with the current F550 I own.....

I posted under the engine information... . but I'm going to try and order today... I know they can't take the order... but I've been waiting. .

can you get the both axle weight ratings also?

The press release states that the front axle is 7000# which would match up with the AAM 1050 265mm (10. 4") ring gear.

The rears are listed as 12,000 and 13,500 but the AAM website does not have any listing for a rear axle with these weight ratings.

Steve, did you get a chance to look at the rear axle? Did they look like the same style as the 2500/3500/3500CC or did they look like a big Ford 9" style? If they looked like a big Ford 9" stlye then they could be one of the AAM banjo style axles, maybe an AAM5140, 7140, or 7200. The first two use a 320mm (12. 6") ring gear and the last a 350mm (13. 8").

I've got the questions into my contacts and will post them here and add them to the article when I hear back. Most of them are traveling home today so I may not get the info today. Wheels and tires were definately 19. 5's and no way they'd swap onto a 3500 - wrong bolt pattern as mentioned.

Kevin - I took a quick look at the rear end but didn't really get a chance to compare them, sorry.

and 10 bolts instead of 8.

but if it could be as simple as changing out the front and rear hub assemblies [assuming axle parts will interchange from a 4500] i'd bet there would be some that would do that. . ?

Here you go guys:

Front axle: Magna (no model designation)

ring gear: 275mm

Rear axle: Dana S110

ring gear: 300mm

10 lug bolt pattern (I've emailed back asking for the size of the pattern and bolt diameter)

Manual locking front hubs are not available :(

The pics on the article that is linked on the TDR home page are definitely 19. 5s. Perhaps they caught a glimpse of my rig  :-laf

I like the looks of the black wheel well flares. I sure hope they do a good job putting a serious 4400/5500 package together behind that Cummins. If I wasn't walking the plank on some property, I'd be jonsing for the 3500 C&C.

The Magna axle is built buy Magna Powertrain which was Magna Drivetrain whom aquired New Venture Gear in 2004 and merged with Tesma International and the Engineering Center Steyr in 2005. Here is the company website/history. http://www.magnapowertrain.com/unternehmen/history.html

Looks like its also a subsidary of DC which would make sense to why its being used. Makes you wonder if AAM axles will be under the 4th Gen Rams in 2009? I wouldnt be one bit surprised to see Magna axles under the 25-3500 class trucks in 2009 for the 4th Gen change over if they are sucessfull under the new C&C trucks!

I found a PDF on Dana's website that lists the S130 as being a 311mm (12. 25") ring gear. It also show 4. 10 as being the highest gearing.

3. 55/3. 23 available? or only 4. 10 and numericly up ?

I'm horrible at the ratio up/down thing.

Merrick

4. 10 is the highest speed gears offered, the rest are lower speed (higher numerically). They did list some nice rock crawler gears.

Expect 4. 88's in a 5500. Copying Ford on that one. At least the double-over should help quite a bit.

I don't see the double OD helping as the second OD is still only . 69. It would need to get down to a . 50 or maybe . 45 to help with a 4. 88.
