I have a leaky pinion seal and before I order the wrong seal, I'd like to know how to determine what (rear) axle I have. The truck is a 2002, 2500 Quad cab, 4x4 auto, with disc brakes all around.
On the left side of the page under Your Vehicle choose Equipment Listing then put your VIN in the Equipment Listing section. You will get the equipment listing for your truck.
2nd gen 2500 trucks with automatics came equipped with the Dana 70. But "all" 3500 2nd gen trucks and manual transmission 2500 trucks came with the Dana 80.

The 2500 trucks with manual transmissions had an 80 hybrid axle, you can tell this one by the axle tubes, they step down in size unlike the 70 or 80 which are a consistent diameter all the way to the brakes.
Correct in that the 2ng gen 2500 manual transmission trucks have the "hybrid" Dana 80. But the only thing that makes them a hybrid is the different outer spindle which accommodates the single rear wheel verses the dually wheels. Other than that, there is zero difference between the Dana 80 in the 3500 and the Dana hybrid 80 in the 2500 trucks. Even the tubes in the 3500 Dana 80's neck down at the spindles.
