JUST WONDERING WHAT KIND OF RPM WILL A STOCK 24VALVE TAKE ,AND AT WHAT NUMBER WILL I HAVE TO CHANGE MY VALVE SPRINGS. I JUST STACKED A BLUECHIP BOX ON MY COMP,AND IT IS VIOLENT. i WAS IN THE LOW 13sBUT I THINK I WILL BE IN THE 12s NOW. Oo.

So you are using the Blue Chip for fuel and the comp for timing?

I would be more worried about exhaust temps than valve float at the moment.

To answer your question:

Float is not caused just by x amount of rpm. It is a combination of things that will cause float like boost, load, rpm etc.

I have seen valve to piston contact running standard OEM RPM's..... I really like upgraded valvesprings on any truck pushing over 40# boost! Now not all trucks will have this issue but the OEM springs vary a ton so some will have issues and others not. But even the best will normally have contact between 3500-3600 RPM. The springs can be changed out while on the truck in a couple of hours.

Doug while were on the subject...

What is the part number for the Cummins tool that YOU use to change them out while the head is installed. I have a part number from a tech manual but didnt know if it was the same one...

Thanks
