A guy on a trailer forum is down on a trip and trying to read codes. The Snap-On scanner he had will not read them. I just tried the neighbors 2006 with his $100 Harbor Freight scanner and it says "function not supported" when reading codes, but does display some live data. Does anyone have a suggestion on a scanner that reads 2007 fault codes that is not too expensive? Sounds like he is on limited income and can't afford to have it towed to a dealer to have it repaired.
Thanks

I can't help with identifying a scanner that will work on the truck, but if we knew where this guy is, maybe someone on the TDR could help him. Or if he's near an auto parts store, they can see if one of there's works. I had MADS programmers on all but current truck, so didn't need scanner.

Wished I could help more, unless he's in the San Antonio TX area, in which case I could be the TDR member to help.

Cheers, Ron

I have a little $49 harbor freight scanner that reads great on my ‘04 and I’ve used it on various us and Asian cars up to 2015 or so. It’s good for reading, clearing, and checking OBDII monitors.
I am fortunate enough to have PC based Autoenginuity and that’ll even read the hard to access ABS on my ‘98.
There has to be a way to get in there.
Stan, could he have a network or communication issue? Power to OBDII connector?

I use Kiwi WiFi on my 07 C&C with the dash command app, it reads and clears codes. But don’t parts houses have some at the store, for customer use?

Probably not, because he got the same message I got on the neighbors 2006 and HF scanner. 2007 was second year of CAN communications so it's a little different than 2005 and older. He borrowed the Snap-On scanner for an evening so can't see what other data they have now.

Yes, auto parts have them but he towed to friends house. Also dually with slide in camper so not easily moved.

When I got my ECM back almost 3 weeks ago my truck was showing 9 or 10 codes that had been intentionally triggered for bench testing. Autozone told me they could only read them, but O'Reilly was able to clear them. I think they used this Bosch OBD1350 scan tool, which is also for sale with several others in their store:

Bosch Scan Tool

I'm guessing that it can be found cheaper online.

Just thought I would add I hope we get to hear the "REST OF THE STORY" on this.
- What reader did he get?
- What is/was wrong with the truck?
- Did he get'r fixed?

Thanks, Ron
