Are Kit Trailers still being made?

Over Weight

Found a 26 ft KIT Trailer - 2003 - aluminum sides - no slide - looks like new - used 2 times - man has to sell because of finances - no job - has queen corner front bed - lots of storage - triple bunks in back, ceiling air, includes equalizer hitch and bars... ..... wants $12,500. Says he paid $16,500 a year ago. Also since they no longer make KIT trailers - would you stay away from it - and doesn't that fact kill the value?????

Sounds like he doesn't know exactly what he has. Kit RV stopped production in 2002, but, Extreme RV (http://www.extremervs.com ) is producing RV's from the Kit factory. Check out http://www.nadaguides.com for a ballpark figure on what the trailer is worth. It will help to know the model and options on it to get a more accurate value. Good luck, and you should be able to get a pretty good deal as just like new cars, new trailers depreciate the most during the first year.

Kit is or was a low end unit. There is nothing about this unit that has "Buy Me" written on it. Metal, no slide, corner bed, etc. It probably is worth something back of $10K. Keep looking... .

Seems like a pretty good drop, for a "new condition" trailer..... if the 16. 5 was a good price (I think he gotted ripped, if he paid that much). Try shopping similar units, new from dealers. Shows are mostly over now, but you should still get a good feel for pricing. Check online for similar used units. (I think the big website is rvtraderonline.com, or something like that).

Assuming he financed it (if he needs to sell, to get out of a loan), then he's probably still really upside-down. Usually takes half the loan-life before value equals owed amount. Thus, he has to ask more than it's worth, unless he can come-up with cash to pay-off the difference.

BTW, I paid 10. 5 (new) for my last unit which was a 30' TT w/queen bed, triple bunks, no slides, aluminum sides.

In case you don't know, Barry is in the RV business. He buys and sells them. If it were my money, I'd heed the man's advice, but that's just me... ... .....
