I just got a 2006 mega cab and i am running a smarty/juice stack on it. I am going to a bigger turbo soon. Can't really make my mind up on what to use. I've used the 66/14 turbos on 6 speed trucks, but I think thats a little much for an automatic. Never tried any of ATS's turbos like the aurora line. Can you guys help me out on this? Thanks

Not really shooting for any certain hp range. I just want it to spool decent and keep egts in check and still pull good at higher rpms. I've used the 62/14 and 66/14 turbos from different companies(I won't mention any company names;)) in the past and they both spool decent and have decent upper end power, but did almost nothing for egts. They cost way too much not to be much better than stock. I'm almost convinced to either leave ths stock turbo on or go with twins. These new stockers aren't as tough, but the old HX-35 is hard to beat. I've ran several of them at 45-48 psi and beat on them for a long time with no problems. And I've blown about a dozen

hx-40s. Never want one of those again. But anyway, I have never tried any of ATS's turbos or BD's singles(have had a few of their twin kits). Or is there something else out there? What about IIs silver bullet. Is it any better than the fat shafts?

Have you thought about a 62/12?

I have thought about the 62/12, but if the 66/14 doesn't do much for egts, theres no way that turbo can be much better than stock. I don't know. I've spent a lot of money on turbos and the only thing I thought really worked is twins. I've never ran a single that did what it was claimed to do. Except back when I had 12 valves and no one had twins really, i ran a bell USB that worked pretty good.

A 66/14 is too big to spool without big sticks & a great stack. I went from a 64/14 HTB2 to a 62/12 HTB2 & egts dropped 300*. I couldn't keep the 64 lit while shifting gears & towing was unreal... . 1700* before it lit & the turbo couldn't catch up by that time. The 62/65/12 is the best turbo for your truck if you tow.

The basis for the 62/12 is a much different design than the HE351. There is a big difference in how they react. Don't discount it on that reason. :)

I have the 62/12 on now I have used the HTT 66/14, 66/12, HTT Pro,64,13,SS, that was worst turbo I have ever used, II SB 66 & SB 62 I always go back to HTT HTB2 it Spools better and runs lower EGTs for low and mid range

then all the above

That is alot of fuel you have there... . just curious what your egts are reading. Can you give some info on temps at wot, cruising & towing if you have. My brother just ordered the same turbo for his 04. 5.

I don't run every day at that power, only at the dyno or drag strip and the HTB2 does run hot at the end of the strip 1600* but it spools good and gets me out the hole better then the larger turbos. The most I tow is about 12000lbs. I can pull a 6* grade at 70mph with out any trouble about 1250-1350*

But I am running water/meth injection. Just running down the highway empty at 75 it runs between 650-775* that depends on head wind and out side temp here in the nevada desert it gets hot up to 115* at times thats running the TST on 3-3 and 50 Horse injectors so some where around 450 HP.

Thanks! We are installing the turbo this afternoon [sat] & I will post results soon.

Waiting????:-laf

Come on its been 10+ hours wheres the update:D

We got it on by 3 o'clock & went to the truck pulls in Waynesburg. [No he didn't pull] I pulled with my 99 & got 5th place in the open diesel class. The 04. 5 is awesome with this turbo! The egt gauge hits 1100* max running the Bullydog on performance setting. {can't get crazy larry to download off the website again] The turbo spools as fast if not faster than stock & goes to 28psi like lightning, but that is as high as it goes for some reason. He has a boost fooler & the 2 prong plug that installs in the old turbo plug. We will get this fixed soon & I'll check back, but as of now it is awesome [up to 28psi].

Called Bullydog & they said that the outlook only reads up to 28psi... . alrighty then. He put the turbo to the test today pulling a 10k# trailer 60 miles through mountain roads & it definately spools faster than the stocker. He had the Tdog set on performance setting & highest the temps got were 1400*. With the stock turbo he couldn't tow on performance because egts would go to 1700*+ really fast. This turbo is awesome & has done exactly what we expected.
