I guess my car is worth more these days

I need some help locating a bolt. My FSM only gives the following dimensions . 375-16x1 . 125. It's for a Jeep, it bolts into the block for a transmission brace deal. These numbers translate to something, however when I go to the bins in the hardware store they're obviously not much help. If anybody knows how to translate that i'd love to learn. Thank you!

3/8"-16 x 1 1/8"

You will more than likely have to decide between 1" or 1 1/4" on the length. 1 1/8" is not very common.

Joe,

I think Mike is spot on, 3/8" diameter 16 threads/inch. Just might want to hook at the head for any grade markings.

Thank you very much Mike, that's the part number I had too. My local dealership said that's a "non-serviceable" part, it appears that I can get it online though? I was hoping to not have to order it, would take a good week to get and I wanted to get this thing out of the garage tomorrow. I took the bolt out, and don't ask me how, but now it's too big to go back in. It will go in maybe a half turn and then stop. I don't know how it could have been mixed up, there's no other bolt like it in the job I was doing. That's why I have to track down the "right" bolt. I'm usually beyond meticulous with not losing hardware, I just can't explain this one.

Thanks for the help though gentlemen, I'll go down to the hardware store and see what I can get. Worst case I'll order it and put the brace on when it comes in. Thank you!

Maybe there is a burr in the threads??? Or the bracket is not quite where it should be??

Are the other bolts loose so that the bracket be moved a bit??

If you can't see in there go steal a little mirror from the wife and have a look, see if the bracket is twisted just a dite.

If you have a tap and die set, you probably should chase the bolt hole in the block just to be safe before trying to thread in the bolt. Of course, I guess if you had a tap and die set, you would have cleaned up the threads on the old bolt..... just thinkin' out loud, I guess.

At first I thought it may have been stress on the bolt from the bracket, but even just trying to thread the bolt into the hole by itself it won't go. It's right out in the open, and it's the only thing close that it can mount too. That has to be the hole and i'm 99% sure it's the bolt that goes there. The only thing else that I had to remove was the starter, and oil pan, and it's not any of those bolts. I'll double check the internal threads for burs, that's something I hadn't though about. Can I just spray something in there to clean it out? I have a little gauge thing and when I put the bolt in there it's larger than 3/8"... I think somehow, someway I screwed up and misplaced the correct bolt. I've checked everywhere, I don't know what could have happened to it:confused:. For some reason I can't copy the picture out of my book for reference, oh well. I appreciate your help Mike.

Thank you Rusty, I'll look into that. I honestly have the feeling somehow I misplaced the bolt. I'm going to look through the garage one more time when I get out there to see if I can find something. As I said though I'm very meticulous and had everything together and organized. You never know though, rear main seal is a long day and I was getting kind of tired toward the end. I'll go back out this evening and triple check everything and check the threads.

You didn't put a US bolt into a Metric hole elsewhere during reassembly and now you are left with a Metric Bolt for a US hole did you??

What size is the bolt head?? If it is not 9/16" then that could be what you have done. I looked thru the parts breakdown above and 99% of it is Metric. The one that is giving you trouble is US thread. Just a thought... ... .

I just checked and it's 15mm. Where the heck could I have screwed that up at? It's honestly the only one like it. I'm looking at my parts sheet and don't see where I could have mixed it up. (Edit: One of the bolts for the starter is M10x1. 5x28, could that be where?)

I recently discovered that one of the two bolts that mount my front, right brake caliper had loosened and fell out. I couldn't find in town so I went to the dealer. They had em' alright. $16. 65 each for an 10. 9- 8mm X 1. 25 X 70mm bolt. What a rip off.
