Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) What size is big plug on drivers side of head?

I had to install a new head on my 96. The machine shop did not take the plug out of old head and the new head does not have a plug. The hole is between the fitting for the boost line that goes to the AFC housing and the holes for the fuel housing. I thought it looked like 1/2" NPT but does not want to start. Every thing is metric on the engine, so I am guessing it is metric. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

Are you talking about the hole for the intake air temp sensor?

The hole I am talking about is on the side of the head. I looked at another 5. 9 motor and the factory plug has a square hole that takes a 1/2" breaker bar.

I see the one you are talking about. Sure looks like 1/2 npt to me.
