WHat the heck is going on!!!!This is a stumper!

Dont know where to post this one as it really doesnt fit just one forum, so feel free to move it if nessecary. Hopefully someone can help, But I have never seen anything like this in the TDR so here it goes.



Today (9/3) I installed a DD TTPM on my truck ( see sig) everything went very well and very easy. Started the truck to make sure everything was fine and it was. Had my stereo on loud so I turned it down to see if there was a sound difference in the engine with the TTPM. Pulled truck back into garage and shut off.



About two hours later jumped in to go to work and now my stereo does not work!!!! What the hell is that about?!?!? I checked fuses and tried reseting the stereo via the reset button to no avail. There is power to the unit, Its is Kenwood Excellon with the D-Mask auto rotating face plate. The face plate will rotate 1/2 way around and stop. Occasionally It will go all the way around, but its like there is no power to the face plate, none of the buttons work, the display does not come on and of course no music.



I am inclined to think that it is pure, Dumb luck that it happened after the install of the TTPM but would like to hear some opinions on the matter. I wouldnt think that the MAP and ECM plugs would have ANYTHING to do with the stereo.



Any ideas?

Pure dumb luck. My Sony MD player in the mustang fell apart yesterday AM and for no aparent reason either. I have done ALOT of installs and weird stuff happens.

:edit: Hang on does the box use power from the fuse panel? if so what did you tag onto?

Power for the box.

nope the box is basicially a Edge EZ (its is actually made by Edge for Diesel Dynamics) It plugs into the three pin ECM plug on the driver side of the engine and to the MAP sensor. Those are the only connections. No independant power supply.

Depends on who installed you stereo.



My local stereo shop hooks up the power supplies straight to the PDC, and if I'm under the hood enough, I can bump the power supplies, and usually loose power to the amp that powers my highs and tweets. Sub still works,,,, I souund like a ricer untill I get it fixed!



Might want to check on that,, I've seen alot of electrical connections work at very load, or short loads, but when some real power is needed, they stop flowing current.

I had the exact same problem with my Kenwood MP3 player about a month or two ago. Wouldnt play any music or show any displays only flip halfway around and back down. It happened when a friend of mine was backing my truck out of the garage and he went to cut it off and went past the "off" position then back to the "on" position and finally found the "off" position. So the only thing my radio man and I could figure out was that it might have had some sort of safety shut off on it when it recieves power on and off quickly. He put me another radio (the exact same kind) in to use while I wait on him to send my radio back to Kenwood and its worked fine since then.
