I have an 05 with the plastic intercooler. It is still holding in there but is it something that I should be concerned about? I have hit 36-37 psi so far, what is the limit on the plastic. I have a new turbo on the way and this issue is bothering me. I don't want it to cause major problems when and if it blows.

Also, for you guys that have replaced them, where do I need to go? I heard that dodge is having a hard time getting the aluminum ones. Is there an aftermarket one out there?

Thanks

Well, you could do like I did and hit a deer, and get it replaced that way.

The dealer I took it to had no problem with getting one for my truck.

You can find them on eBay for under a $100 all day long. I have my stock one in my garage I'll sell you. I replaced with the Banks Technicooler. I can tell you from experience I have seen my EGTs go down 200*+. Everyday driving around the city no difference in temps. On the freeway cruising I'm seening a good solid average 100* drop. I really see the difference when I'm towing. The day I installed it I took off for AZ with my boat on the back (6,500lbs). Done the drive a million times, same load, same TST settings, same speed, same everything. Climbing the hills I was seeing 200*+ drop. Rolling down the freeway at 70mph with the boat I was seeing a 100* drop. Worth the $1300... that's up to you. But I'm a believer.

Wow, what a change of tune! I can't believe you're endorsing a GBE product after all you've said.

I guess they took care of you somehow. Are you allowed to talk about it?

BTW, those Banks CACs looks nice. I'd like to get one someday...

It would be very hard for me to drop 1300$ in an intercooler. Does anyone have any info about the one at www.sourceautomotive.biz? Its on sale for 650? I still do not know that I want to be out that much money.

I don't want to get stranded because of it, it has lasted so far. If I do anything, I will problably try to find a stock metal capped one. I do appreciate the comments.

The coolers on ebay, were they plastic or metal??

Thanks

$1200 to $1500 for the GBE intercooler??!! Yes, its a nice looking piece, but that is a ton of dough.

I replaced my plastic intercooler today with a DC new unit (I paid $500 with my discount, not sure what the going retail cost is).

Comparing the two, the aluminum end tank unit is 2. 375 wide in the cooler tubes, but the plastic crapo is only 2 inches wide. What a piece of crap it is. The inlet is very restrictive too with all the internal plastic bracing. No wonder my 04. 5 would hit 38 psi, and my 05 barely hit 33psi. I think Dodge pulled some boost out of the turbo on the 05 due to the crappy intercooler.

My advise? Get the DC unit and use the other $1000 for mods that will show more bang for the buck. The GBE unit is sweet, but way over priced.
