My 01 Club Cab 6spd will not be used for towing. I dislike the 4. 10s as truck has to much power and screams down the highway. Are other rear ends readily available? What about gear swapping?

Gear swapping is very common with a wide range of choices available. The most common gear ratio choices are 3. 54:1 (for better fuel economy) or the 4. 10:1 which you have (for towing).

My truck came with 3. 54:1 gearing which I had changed out a couple of years ago to 4. 10:1 at Randy's Ring and Pinion in Everett, WA for better towing performance. It was the best upgrade I've done! While doing the swap they also replaced the axle bearings and worn-out limited-slip clutches.

Check out the info on Randy's Ring and Pinion web site.

Best regards,

Gear swapping is the way to go for you. I have 3. 54 gears, they do me fine and I'm keeping them. Not a quick as 4. 10's, but on the freeway the RPMS are way down and mileage is up. Nicer to drive actually. They also make a gear set that's between these two sets. I think it's 3. 73's which was installed factory in a lot of our Dodges. Maybe you can find somebody that wants to tow on here that wants 4. 10s on TDR and do axles or gear swaps for cheap. Your Signature doesn't say where you're from. It might hard to find a swap without your state listed at least.

I know quite a few guys looking to go to 4. 10's. They live in PA. PM me if you are interested in swapping gears.

If I'm not mistaken the 3. 73s are in the 3gen AAM axles. I've had both 3. 54 and 4. 10 and definitely prefer the 3. 54s since most of my driving is highway/dirt road and not consistently pulling anything.

I do have a set of used 3. 54s front and rear. I was planning on swapping them in my 97, but came across my 98 before getting around to having the swap done. So, they are available if you can't find a cheap set in the classified section.

I have the 3:54's but personally I think that 3:73 is the best gear ever put in a truck for general use. I have owned several trucks with 3:73's and I love that gear. Pulls well, but goes down the highway equally well. Just MHO
