Broke down and got a new reman pump put on my 1st Gen. What should I do with it? Bomb it, leave it alone, wait?

I have a 550 mile road trip to make... Is that good break-in time or do I even need to break it in? It runs and idles so much smoother and is a bit more snappy. Oh, how hard it is to keep my hands off it, the little blue dots of tamper paint are screaming my name. Let me know what is best fellas.

I voted BOMB it, but I agree with Jay. I would go one oil change or so just to make sure. That is a lot of money to part with, hate to void a warranty before you are sure everything is tip top.

Run it for a few weeks/a month then consider doing some tweaking. Also, run some good additive thru it especially during the initial trial period.

If you are going to have a problem you should see it fairly soon and you won't have to fight over warranty because you bomb'd it right away.

Scott is correct, we don't normally do a "break-in" period but should just play safe with this one.

bob... .

Thus far the vote goes to BOMB it, which I will. But I think it best with a couple of folks encouragement to give a chance to prove it is going to run alright. Anybody have an Old Smokey fuel pin they want to part with?

Scott

I like how no one has said to leave it alone. I voted to bomb it. Mine didnt get a break in period. Off the shelf to the flow stand to my pickup, but I would wait untill you are satisfied that it isnt going to leak or fail.

Just to add a bit here too... . you want to run it a week or two and get some baseline info from it too.

You can see what your numbers are over different conditions/throttle positions/gear choices/grades etc... then do the mods..... ONE AT A TIME in my opinion.

Each time, drive it a bit to determine what the results of the recent mod has given you, then make the next one and so on... .

JMO mind you...
