i dont want to bring my truck back to the stealer but fluid in my rear axle is low what is the best to refill with? what do they use from the factory? where can i buy this oil?

Synthetic 75w-90. But the stealer here dosen't have it ???? All I wanted to do was top off the diffs (1qt low rear & 3/4 front) and the parts guy said Dodge doesn't have a 75-w90 synthetic. I ask why both the owners and service manuals called for it, but Dodge doesn't make it? Dumb look

i am going to find some my axles are low so i am going to get on the phone and look on internet to find it will post back. if anyone knows who carries this type of oil let us know. so far i have been to autozone and discount auto parts.

Who fired that shot?

Ischultz,

Nothing wrong with that, I've used it and was quiet happy with it. It's just hard to get sometimes. I thought I might have a few gallons lying around, but I must have used it already. I'll probably try to find something that is a little more readily avalable.

I think the question is: is it safe to mix the aftermarket oil you buy with the oil that came from the factory?

GM makes a synthetic fluid that is, I believe, 75W90.

My gear man won't put anything else in rear ends he works on. It's apparently a little expensive, but he thinks it's worth the price.

Available at your local GM Stealer.

I couldn't find anything wrong with Valvoline full synthetic GL-5, M-T 75-90 so I filled it to the fill hole. The price is right and it's readily available. It took just over 1 1/2 quarts to top it off. :D

Texaco and Mobile have been large suppliers for GM's oil's, I have never seen Texaco synthetic gear lube so it may be a Mobile product. I have used Mobile 1 in everything and Autozone always has it.

Call the folks at Mag-Hytech, they've got just the stuff. I just spent the last 5 hours doing my taxes and can't think straight right now - so I can't remember the name of the fluid.

i found it at napa $9 valv. full syn 75w-90. i also called valv. and they said it would be ok to mix. it took 1 quart to bring back and front axles to the fill hole. i also checked transfer case full. what size tool do i need to check the 6spd? is it that plug that looks like it takes a massive allen wrench? if so what size? just to end guys make sure you have enough oil in you axles, transfer, and transmission.

I don't own one so I don't have an owners manual. I just work on them.

The 6sp trans takes a 17mm allen. If you can't find one get a bolt with a 17mm head and 2 nuts that fit the bolt luck the nuts together and you have a 17mm allen wrench. It is alot easier to get a 17mm allen wrench for a ratchet.

mopar does make 75w90 synthetic gl5, the part number is

5010320aa which is what you should use for top up, if you

are going to fill the fluid to the bottom of the filler hole, its best to

check it when the fluid is warm. with the fluid cold it should be

3/4 to 1 inch below.
