What to Look for When Buying a 3rd Gen?

I love my '02 but I have decided to go with a new or newer truck. Over the last couple years I've really only researched the 2nd gen. info. on these boards but now I need to "cram" for the big purchase. What should I be looking for in making a purchase? I'd kind of like to have a manual but I don't want the high rpms at highway speeds of the G56. When did they stop making hte NV5600? When did they upgrade to the 48RE. How about the NV271? There are a few things I like about the newer trucks but would like some advice on what to specify or look for on a new one.



I don't tow heavy very often but on occasion as work requires so that is not dictating my needs (wants).
