Gotta get the best

Hey folks, its me again.

Can anyone tell me any specifics my friend should look for in purchasing a used 01/02 CTD? Common problems, problems that he should expect in a 2nd generation CTD, with 40 to 60 thousand miles? Any help is greatly appreciated. Oo.

steering track bar and fuel psi take the truck by cummins and let then check it out and use diesel fuel additives like STANADYNE DIESEL FUEL CONDITIONER but read all the info you can on all the dodge diesel forums

Well I bought my first dodge diesel in Jan of 04 and the things I wish I'd have looked at were the ball joints tie rod ends and front brakes. All of those things were bad when I got my truck. If someone has put aftermarket greaseable parts on there, theirs a good chance there ok. If there still the original or an oem replacement (no grease zerk) there's at least a 50/50 chance there bad. If any of those components have any slop in them I'd use it against them to get a better deal. I was quoted 1800 bucks to replace all the ball joints and tie rod ends with oem parts. I did the work myself with after market, parts (which I think are better quality anyway)for about 600 bucks. That included new front rotors and pads. I also had a bad lift pump. Make them show you on a pressure gage what its putting out. Mine puts out 13 psi at Idle. You might want to make sure its not a 53 block but if its an 02 it probably isn't. Also maybe crawl under the truck and look for any leaks like the rear seal on the trans. If its even wet I'd tell them about it to try and get more money off. Mine is but when I check the level its always good so I don't think that is a very big deal really. Unless of course its worth a few bucks off on the bottom line!
