So we're gonna stuff a 6BT between the frame in the RC, and while it's out I'm going to kill the KDP and re-seal whatever is leaking, including the rear main, oil pan, and ??? What gaskets and seals have or would you replace while the engine is out and easy to get at?

id do a marine head gasket and stud the head, and if you have the funds, since you got the motor out, put in a cam. youll thank yourself later on down the road. and id really get into the powersteering pump, all the seals you can find to replace on that dang thing. i swear them thing are always wet.

just a few things i would do if i had the motor out.

Oil pan, rear main seal, front crank seal, front cover gasket, water pump if yours is weeping at all, thermostat and gaskets, and thats about ill i would do until it is running.

Everything you can't get to easily in the truck. :)

Don't forget to check end play in the crank and replace the thrust bearings if it is on the high end.

Good call... thanks... I need to check this on my marine conversion.

gaskets and seals from NAPA?, or stick with my instincts and just get everything from Cummins? Not that I'm cheap, but if there are good-bad reports from 'other than Cummins' seals and gaskets I'd like to hear 'em. Parts will be all Cummins - no question, but gaskets???

I'd go the big C all the way. JMO. I know you gotta get the cam plug from Cummins. I haven't found 1 yet at any autoparts house.

This would be a good time to check T. I. R. on your cylinder block and cylinder head mating surfaces... grind if neccessary. A little hard to fix when its in the truck.

I tend to be overly anal about it if I get the chance to check things from the comfort of anywhere other than with my feet wedged between the block and a frame rail, so personally I'd check as many of the bearing and mating surfaces as you can, depending on how much you wanna take apart. Machine as neccessary, if youre going through the work to do the swap, you want that thing to run (and last) like a brand new motor.

At this point I'd also have to ask if youre just looking for a CTD Ramcharger, or if you're lookin for a 500hp CTD Ramcharger. Depending on you're answer to that, I think I'd suggest a totally different set of things to check/fix.
