What to use to kill critters in the fuel?????

Looking for a microbiocide to add to the fuel to keep the critters down.

What is a good brand, and where could a guy buy it?

Go to your nearest airport FBO (fixed base operator) and talk to any good aircraft mechanic. They will recomend and probably sell you what you need. Jet fuel is only high grade fuel oil much like diesel fuel. If you read your owners manual it will even tell you that you may use Jet-A in your truck.

Most additives will help kill the critters. Buying fuel from busy gas stations or truck stops (even better) really helps keep the varmints out of the tank in the first place.

Go to an RV store, marine store, or a diesel repair shop.
They should sell what you need.
The Coast Guard uses something called "hammer down" or something close to this.
When I was talking to my local diesel shop. they said that they do not reccomend using this type of addative unless there IS contamination in your fuel.
I was going to use it as a preventitive measure.

Go to an aviation mechanic and ask him where you can buy Prist. We use it in every gallon of fuel pumped into everything we use at work. I don't buy it, but that's what it is used for. Safe for diesels and gas turbines as well. I would use it in a heartbeat. Just my . 02 #ad

I second what sixkill had to say, Prist is the thing to use, if it keeps JetA from freezing at 41,000 ft in the air at a Negative 50 temp, it ought to handle the job on the ground, and it helps kill critters! I use it in the turbo prop I fly!!!! P. S. It won't go to 41,000 ft. !

I have used a product appropiately called KILLEM. It is made by a company called FPPF. I bought it at a bulk fuel/oil distributor. I have treated several Mercedes with this and it worked well. The stuff has a smell like something that died. If you check your fuel filter at routine changes, look for a black slime residue. This spells trouble. If you have a case of the black algae in your tank, treat it then change out your filter. I have had to pull out fuel tanks and manually clean them out because the algae had clogged tank strainers and dip tubes. As many members have stated,buy your fuel at a busy station

Wurth, inc. sells a product called Diesel Purge. It's an additive for "sick diesels". I've had guys come in and the entire fuel filter housing (canister style) was packed solid with slime. This case to multiple doses and I even ran the engine on the purge itself by connecting the feed and return lines to the bottle (recommended by the company). In most cases, it's best to siphon the tank and start from scratch with good, clean fuel and an additive from a good, well known company such as FPPF, Wurth, Prist, etc.
