Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Block Heater Question

I would like short opinions of what to get and were to find them, I am not looking for the best or the highest priced. But I don't want a high stall junker like the OEM.

I had 180 k on the stock trans and I have about the same on this one i have about 260 hp to the ground. This trans was built back in 2000 by a company that Mark at TST was using and Mark spect out the parts, I believe that the TC was a Dunrite but am not sure. If anybody know please chime in.

I read some of the old post on this subject and my eyes still hurt from some of the long posts ;)

Thanks again in advance.

The different companies... . My favorite is Goerend Brothers.

DTT makes a good unit.

ATS makes a good unit.

Suncoast makes a good unit.

Short opinion... . Dave Goerend has patents on stator designs. Good stuff too. ATS is now trying to copy his idea.

He's also the kind of guy that IS customer service. There is a member here that got a call back from Dave on Christmas Eve!

That's the long and the short of it.

ATS or Suncoast convertor, you cannot go wrong they are proven converters. I personally would rather spend a little more, do it once, and keep the truck on the road, not in the driveway.

TCS makes a very good convertor also, they used to supply DTT with convertors.

PM me if interested, a friend hear in Michigan is a TCS dealer. Mine was about $400 less than a few of the big name convertors.

Dave Goerend, ... lifetime warrenty, unlimited customer service, priced right, perfect stator design, and he's the nicest guy in the world ..... 1-563-778-2719

Joe,

Sorry things turned out bad for you. I guess that you won't really know what happened until they get into the transmission. It could turn out to be something fairly easy. As for any new parts that may be needed, you have lots of choices but I would give the folks that made the one that failed a chance to make it right. If they won't help you without good reason, let us know. Then pick the one that impresses you most. I bought from DTT because he is relatively close.

It turned out to be a spool in the valve body after all, but the trans is down and being rebuild. I am glad we tore it down as the rear planetary was in rough shape (330k) and 3rd gear clutches were getting bad. Tony from DUNRITE Converters has been a great help, he seems very knowlagable.

Thanks for all the help :)

Joe

One thing to consider is going with a single or triple lock. I heard you should go with a single as much as possible because triples have their drawbacks, namely added rotational mass resulting in harsher shifting, more wear & tear to transmission parts, greater risk of breaking the input shaft or other parts, etc. I haven't paid much attention to the auto transmission arena but heard some single TCs can hold some pretty impressive HP.
