what trans to use?

I just picked up a 90 6-bt and I am going to install it in an 87 gmc suburban 2500 4x4. I would like to know if anyone has used a 700r4 or 4L80E trans, or did you use a dodge trans. I have done another conversion in an 89 3500 dooley but I used a turbo 400 with a gearvender o/d and also re geared to 3. 54. I would like to use a lockup converter because the 400 has to much slip. Any advise would be very helpful

For me, my trans would be dictated by the following question:

You going to juice it up, or leave it stock?



Bone stock in 90, I think the 700 would hold it fine.



Seen the 700 behind a 4BT. It did a good job. 2WD though.

They have a nice 1st gear
