I Know i'm opening a can of worms here but i'm just totally confused at to what to do about stock trans. I have 53k on my 06 and I can't imagine i will make it past 100k with stock trans the way i drive. Do I do some improvements myself: shift kit, converter, ect. or have it built right. It is starting to shift hard to 2nd and i just don't like the overall feel of the trans from the get go, never felt like it is putting all the power to the ground. DO i need to take it to a trans shop? or can you just get a mail order trans from sun coast, ats, or one of those and out it in? I can install a trans no problem or a shift kit or converter. I'm just not able to do a complete teardown with my resources. where do i start? what shops are you guys using. I'm in the northeast.

thanks!

Call DTT or Dave Goerend and ask about an authorized installer near you. Either one of those brands are very trustworthy with good customer support from what I've read.

I'm looking into a Goerend myself. Hopefully in a few weeks I Will be able to call him. On a side note where in NY is westchester county?

thanks guys, it seems like Goerend has a great reputation on tdr. do i need an installer to buy or can i install myself? if there any tunning required or is it a bolt in?

Mobius, Westchester county is the county just north of the bronx, right outside the 5 boro's. where are you getting your trans done?

So far as I know its just R&R but that would be a question to ask Dave. I was going to have a friend of mine out west do it for me (near Syracuse). Like I said I am HOPING to be able get one in a few weeks. But we all know how that can go

what are we looking at for price range? i know i should just call, probably won't be able to do it until spring anyway.

Goerend all the way. if you just do yourself a favor and call around to all the builders you will see what one is the best jsut by the questions they ask! if you ask me Dave Goerend knows the dodge transmission better then anyone! keep us posed with your choice!!! good luck!

When I went looking for trans help 2 years ago, I did a bunch of research. I chose Goerend. He was able to talk me through everything, and just as important, I could not find one person who wasn't pleased with their transmissions. I found several people that weren't happy with their "other" trans companies, but none that weren't happy with Dave. That was two years ago, and you know what? I STILL haven't heard of anybody! (there is a good reason for that... they have great transmissions and great service. )
Dave offered to send me his parts and I could have a local shop install them, but since I had no idea how bad my trans was, I drove it to him. I believe the whole bill was under $4000. All billet, except output shaft, haisley flexplate support, including r&r.

Having an authorized installer do it keeps you out of the middle and maintains your warranty. I witnessed the r&r and rebuild of my DTT on the '98. 5. There's a lot to it. You'll love the results. :)

Instead of starting this thread over:

I have a 06 auto that is giving me fits. If it's going under the knife, what common upgrades should every ~06 owner plan on making? I'm not dragging the truck or trying to win a tow competition. I just want a very reliable transmission that can put the power (stock or mild smarty) to the ground.

Goerend has a heavy duty trans and a lighter duty trans option. Ask Dave and he'll guide you in the right direction. BTW, I went with the stock flex plate with a weld in insert and haven't had any problems. I think it was only $150 for that option.

Talk to Pat at level 10 performance transmissions. They are located in Hamburg,NJ. 973-827-1000. Had my 03' built back in 07' for $5900. "Big" difference over stock, talk about putting power to the rear wheels! Great people, and they stand behind there work. Frank
