I had a Tst transmission temp gauge that never read right tried several different senders but still incorrect. Just installed a westack 50-350 temp gauge and it only runs around 120 f no load 65mph 70 f ambient air temp. I checked it with a temp gun at the pan and new sender is close within 10 deg. Does this sound right? what is everyone else running for temps? In town stop and go it got to 130 deg didn't shoot actual temp here I think it is reading low but will carry my temp gun with to confirm this.

Thanks for the reply. My first gauge never registered a reading at all at first then tried different senders that either read 30 deg high to 30 deg low. that is when I just replaced entire gauge. I still have stock oil pan also with sender located in the lower right rear.

Well I see alot higher with my TST Powermax3 gauge. I had the sender in the pan and it would be about 150 or so cruising, and would creep up to 175-185 in stop and go traffic. I just put a second sender in the line to the transmission cooler, and it was reading 190 after driving and then just idling for a couple minutes. I think those temps seem way too high. I need a temp gun to try to verify. I dont think my transmission is actually running too hot, because I just replaced my fluid after a year and 12K miles, and it looked bright red and didn't have any burnt smell at all.

Mine is located in the DD-Mag HyTech pan and runs about 110 - 120 highway and about 150 around town stop and go full operating temp.

In lockup the guage doesn't read (too low of a temp). Out of lockup, 140-160. If I'm in stop and go or backing up, I can easily get it up to 220-240* Sensor is in the hot line.

2 sensors, 1 in pan, 1 in hotline.

lockup pan town 150, hotline town 150 (seems to have a thermostat somewhere in the valve body set at 150)

lots of out of lockup time in town, pan 150, hotline 175

BACKING UP 12k 5er

Pan 150, hotline - I stop and let it cool when it reaches 200. It can easily go to 250 if you let it.

I also have an aux transmission cooler with a fan I have turned on whenever I am towing the 5er.

Hope this helps,

Bob Weis
