Looking for rear dual fender flare

Ebrake Deals

I have a '97 5 spd with a #10 plate, 3000 GSK, 370 injectors, BHAF, and 4" exhaust. Currently I have a HX-35 with the HTT stage III kit with a modified 12, it works great for around town but EGT's get too hot when I tow. I was looking at the HTB2 turbo till I heard that the drive pressure at 40# of boost was 53#. Has anyone gone from a HX-40 to one of these?Any feedback would be appreciated.

those 370's are going to be to hot for a 40, i would go to a b1, unless you plan to go to twins then get a used 40 and go from there. that is my plan

Bob, my truck is set up very similiar to yours. I have been seriously thinking of doing the HTT stage 3 soon and install my 370's at the same time. I would also like an HX40, but I really like my Pacbrake, which limits my choices. Maybe a 14 or 16 would drop your temps enough?

Would you recommend the hybrid for me since I don't tow heavy?

Nick

Nick, I had a 16 on it for a while, couln't contol the boost, was over50 psi. The EGT seemed about the same on the top and much better on the bottom with the 12. I like the turbo for around town, still gets hot but it takes a while. You're welcome to come up for a test drive some time if you want.

Sounds like Bob is a candidate for an external WG. The housing's too small.

Forrest's recommendation sound about right.

If you wanna go bigger, I'd suggest a B1, a Pius USB/WSB, or the HTB2

i too am also in the market for a new turbo. my current setup runs AWESOME, but im throwing wayy too much un-burned fuel out my stacks while my turbo lags. how many lbs of boost does that b-1 make? is that bell USB better then the piers b-1?

TIA

The HX-40 is not as durable as the B series turbos. That being said Piers HX-40 has a great track record for guys who leave the wastgate set as it comes from PDR. Personally I think all the B series turbos except the full B-1 have too small of an exhaust housing for towing with the fuel turned up. The best b series turbo I feel would be a wastegated B-1... ... The HTT turbo's suffer from high backpressure issues and the KS and B-1-2 are going to be running more backpressure than a full B-1.

That being said with your setup I would go with a PDR-40 and my second choice would be a full B-1 that is wastegated. Remember that backpressure has a lot of effect on egt's and that total boost #'s are not really important but contolling egt's are.

Bob, is 53#'s that bad? that's not even 1 to 1. 5 drive PSI. The PDR HX35 is alot more it's up to 3. 5 times more. Are the 12V's not able to handle as much as the 24V's?

you should be fine with an HX40... I had a #6 plate full forward with 370's, and EGT's were totally managable. I mean, it got warm, but NOTHING like the plate I've got in there now!!!

and a #10 has upper RPM defueling that the #6 doesn't.

I think you'd be fine w/ a 40. if you don't abuse it, it'll last... just don't overspin it. mine's set at 39psi. EGT's climb at the same rate with 39, 42, or 45psi on my truck, so I set it at 39. I let off the throttle quickly all the time. turbo is still as tight as the day it was installed ~25k miles later.

I'd like to play with a full B1, but for that kind of scratch, I'll do twins.
