My 2001-1/2 2500 Ram CTD has trouble with the EGT's when towing up some hills. A few years after I got her I had a new mild turbo installed but I made the mistake of ordering it with a smaller sized exhaust exit and now I think that is the main cause of my high EGT's. I can't afford a new truck and was wondering if I should put a new turbo on it with a larger exhaust exit. I might be able to afford a new turbo but I no longer live near my previous source for truck repairs and information. Anybody out there with knowledge of a good pulling turbo that I could put on my truck? I am a partial invalid and no longer able to do any of my own truck work but I would really like to do some traveling with my 5'ver in my remaining years which may be long or short, depends on the Lord! Some say 77 is still young and some say I should kick back and enjoy my remaining years but I don't know my time clock but there is so much I want to see and do!!!:D

I have the boxer 58 turbo kit from industrial injection and like it. It comes with a 4 inch down pipe and I have seen some decrease in egts. I have 4 inch exhaust now from turbo to tailpipe end. I have a camper and also tow a 20 foot boat with the camper. To keep my egts in check I also put the transmission in tow haul mode when going up steep hills. It's slower but I keep my egts well in check this way.

I have a Dana 80 4:10 rear end, Fass fuel filter, Pac Brake that hasn't worked right but still there, 4" exhaust, old Banks Air intake elbow, Magnum Flow Pro air filter, new exhaust manifold, DTT Heavy duty trans with deep pan and their lock up torque converter switch. I bought a Smarty right after they came out and recently upgraded its soft ware. Don't know yet if the new program smokes much. I bought my Smarty before Brown outlawed them in California. I don't have any other electrical mods except for the Smarty which I only when pulling my 5'ver up grades. I do have gauges.

I think a BD Super B single turbo would be worth looking into. we had one on my dads 04 with about the same modes you have and it worked quite well while towing 18 to 21000 pounds on the grades of central PA, You might not see the 40 psi max pressure we did since the starting hp is lower but it should still work good. I'm running a Holeset HX Super 40 on my truck but i dont think you have enough fuel for that

Check to make sure your non-working exhaust brake is not stuck partially closed. That would cause a loss of boost and high egts I believe.
