Am looking for recomendations for a good quality brake controller to put in '04 ram, quad cad, long bed, CD. Thanks

As far as I'm concerned, having run every type of controller available (ramped time-based, inertial and true proportional), there are only 2 choices that I'd consider:

1. Brakesmart - a little pricey, but the best available.

2. Jordan Ultima 2020 - available for <$100 on the Internet and a close second to the Brakesmart as a true proportional controller.

I have not used the Brakesmart or Jordan controllers, but have heard alot of good things about them. I just purchased a prodigy and am really impressed over the other controllers that I have used.

I also have not tried the brakesmart or jordan, have heard good things. I do use the Prodigy, and love it. simple install, just hook it to the factory plug (if you still have it in the glove box) and plug it in. Also can get the Prodigy on ebay, and a couple other places I think for under $100 w/ shipping. I have used the tekonsha voyager, and drawtite activatorII as well, and replaced with prodigy.

Years ago I had a Drawtite Activator and it was absolute junk. I replaced it with some no-name controller when it died while on the road, this one too was junk. When I got home I ordered a Jordan since it was supposed to be the "Top of the line" at the time and I was happy with it, it works as advertized.

After a while I started seeing more and more about the BrakeSmart so I sucked it up and paid the price of admission to try it out. I am very impressed with it and now my old Jordan is on a shelf in the garage just in case the BrakeSmart malfunctions and I might need to pull a trailer while it is getting fixed or replaced.

Pony up the cash for the BrakeSmart, it's worth it and it'll be the only controller you'll ever want to use again.

Good luck,

Mike

Brakesmart Poor Customer Service/Reliability

My 350. 00 Brakesmart crapped out last December (yes, under warrantee), and all I've got is the run-around. Seems they are having "manufacturing problems. " They must be made in China or something, cause they can't seem to get any new units in. Expect LONG waits.

When the thing works, there's none better, but they don't work for long. I know several folks that have them, and we've all had programming problems. I've been promised a new unit since January, and have made repeated calls, but to no avail. "We're still waiting on replacement units. " NS!!! Me too!

For the money, I'd expect it to last a while.
