Well, now that winter is almost here, it's time to get the buggy ready. But first I have a question. What type of brake fluid is recommended? DOT 3, DOT 4? What is the difference between the two DOTs? WHich is better?

Thanks

Dot 4 fluid boils at a higher temperature than Dot 3 does, but Dot 4 is more hygroscopic and must be changed more frequently. Probably the best fluid is a good Synthetic. I buy Valvoline synthetic (which meets Dot 3 and 4 specs) at Autozone.

Has anybody tried silicone brake fluid in their truck? I use it in my antique cars and everything looks good after many years of service.

Synthetic is good; Silicon is NOT. The only good method that I have heard of to change over to silicon is to change all seals in the braking system out. Every one of them! That is pretty expensive.

I would strongly suggest Motul as the brake fluid of choice. It is synthetic and had been around for a while. It is much higher heat than most. It has been proven on almost every race circuit out there and can be purchased in most race or motocycle shops. See: http://www.motul.com

BTW: that site does not work real well with netscape. I had to fire up IE to see some of the frames that I wanted.
