This is my first thread because my truck has been Great so far but I had something happen to it while we were traveling North with the travel trailer. My truck is an 2008 with 48000 miles on it. All the maintenance has been done and the only after market item that is on the truck is an AFE air filter. We we doing about 71 mph and the truck was going through a regen. The boost was at 13psi and the pyrometer was at 1450. All of a sudden there was a bang from under the truck and the boost pressure went done to 5 psi and then then came back up to normal. The regen temp stayed the same and the truck was running fine. No codes, nothing. It happened one more time before the regen was done. The next time the truck went through a regen we were only doing 55mph and it went through the regen fine. Does anyone have an idea what this is all about?

Check your DPF and see if it is cracked. Not supposed to go BANG like that and the DPF's have a habit of cracking with age.

I finally got around to taking the truck in for a complete scope and the dealer didn't find anything wrong. They forced it into regen and still didn't find anything. I took the exhaust apart today and still didn't find anything wrong. Nothing plugged or extremely dirty. So now what do I do? Any thoughts anyone. #@$%!#@$%!

Just make sure you kepp all the stuff you take off so it can be reistalled if you decide to trade or sell. The cost to replace is restrictive.

I'll keep it on hand.

Thanks cerberusiam. I'm sure I'll need to put it all back on someday. So now I need to find a tuner that is dependable and what I need to delete any codes that pop up. Thanks

I use Gordon down at Innovative Diesel Performance in Maryland for my EFI work and never have had an issue. He tunes both my deleted 2007.5 truck and my 2005 with the custom harness on it to run EFI.

I have a lot of questions about how it all works and what steps I have to take and have found some answers online. The nearest dealer to me is Dan's performance Diesel in Marengo Ill. I talked to him briefly but still have those questions. It's a big step and money to spend on parts. I've ordered the EGR delete kit from Sinister Diesel and will order the new exhaust when I get the money. I'll order the tuner last so there's no time lag on installation. What do you do with all the plugs on the exhaust? I'm sure that's probably on the installation guide but information now is good for later. Any information you can provide will be Greatly appreciated. Thanks Hammer. Merry Christmas :)

Just be sure you replace it BEFORE taking it in to a dealer.... There are some new laws out there requiring dealers to notify authorities when your emission systems have been tampered with....

EPA... not the place to bring up that subject!!!

The dealer was the one that suggested that I do the deletes and put in a tuner because they had no idea what the problem is with my truck. They talked to corporate and they had no idea. I talked to Dodge and Cummins and no one had an idea. I've talked to local diesel mechanics and they had no idea. I'm mostly a gas engine guy but I've sure learned a lot about diesels in a short time. I'm out of warranty so it's all on my dime anyway and I hate to keep giving it to the dealer.
