2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission What was the purple called in 1999?

Looked at a 2500 4x4 CTD today and it was a purple color, I havent really seen that before, what did dodge call it? Is it a rare color?

You are probably talking about Deep Amethyst Pearlcoat. I didn't think that it was ever offered on the Ram. But, I could be wrong.

I know it was offered in 1999, and I think that was the only year. Awesome color would love to have one. Every Deep Amethyst CTD I see driving by I give a double take. I only see maybe 2-3 of these rigs a year.

If anyone stumbled across a truck that color with a 6-speed from the factory, grab it! That would be one seriously rare Dodge Cummins!

I had a 1998 12v 4x4 qcsb 5spd. Best truck i ever had. Dave smith sold it to me with 35k miles on it in 01 for 18k! I sold it later with 200k for $14k. Dave smith sold it to me so cheap cause they had trouble selling a purple truck.

So that's where that song "Purple Haze" came from? A purple Cummins Dodge in a cloud of diesel smoke.



I'm a Vikings fan, but a purple truck would rank just barely above a Mary Kay pink one in my book.

When the guy told me it was purple I thought that would be almost a instant deal breaker for me but once I saw it in person it really wasnt bad. Its not something you see everyday thats for sure and it really doesnt scream purple almost a blue kind of.

Here are some pics for you guys. It really didn't look too bad. I woudln't have ordered it from the factory like that, but it didn't look purple unless you were real close to it or the sun was shining on it.

That's not a bad "purple" at all. Looks more blue. Like a grape. I was envisioning something more towards the lavender end of the spectrum.

I dont remeber which lights those were. They were cheapo walmart ones. Worked good and fit nice though.

That color was available as a 1/2 year color in 98 also and can be found on some late built 12v rides,both quad and ext cabs(I have seen both). There WAS(keyword here) a 98 12v 5spd SB Quad in that color here for a while. It was found by a youngster whose father made the purchase for him and it wasn't long before it was destroyed in a wreck. That was back in late 01 and me now knowing how rare that color is on a 12v makes me shake my head... ... Andy

That is a shame to hear. I liked the oddness of it so I bought it last night

Thanks ill get some pics of her up as soon as I can. I need to get wheel center caps for her and of course a new dash. It just started to crack it looks like but it wont be long now

Hey, those are minor things. Around here, finding anything used that doesn't look swiss cheese from the road salt is a miracle. I've got an itch for another 1st or 2nd gen. I was ready to pull the trigger on a beautiful '01 from Florida last fall. But, a family emergency kept me from getting down there to pick it up before it sold.
